"Offensive players will not be allowed to block below the waist when the block occurs more than 5 yards beyond the line of scrimmage."
Good idea. No dangerous cut blocks while running full speed. Knee injuries are brutal

First step. After a few years of kickoffs being boring they will eliminate them entirely. I would guess that making them boring is phase one.

The only people who were returning kickoffs as it was, were teams facing a coach who felt he had a good enough coverage team that they would kick short of the end zone.

OU kicked off 112 times last year and only 21 were returned.
FAU kicked off 100 times only 23 returned.
AState wanted to defend returns so kicked off 85 times with 49 returned.

give me some stats please. We've all heard this argument (and this is focused at option based teams, but will probably effect run heavy teams in general). But basically you can't hit below the waist or above the shoulders. While I understand the theory behind these rules, it creates a very small contact window. We will be seeing a lot of flags thrown. Eventually they will keep banning/ limiting contact and it will turn into flag football.

This won't eliminate kick returns, it will decrease them. You will still have teams with good return men that will return it from the five. How many times will a return team catch a kicking team off guard and return one they think they are going to fair catch?

Still has the possibilities of excitement.

And some coaches will still try to tempt returners to advance the ball.

I was afraid they were going to get rid of kick return this year when we have an All-American. Glad that didn’t happen.

While we are at it, lets deal with baseball. Batters regularly get hit by baseballs at the plate, and a few result in injuries. Why not change baseball to the "T-ball" format. In this way the hitters would also have a better chance at hitting the baseball, so they are not plagued with a poor batting average. The pitcher would be relegated to the role of on field team director.

I honestly think that if we consider all possibilities we can protect the upcoming millennials from all harm while avoiding the damage to their egos from poor performance.

Who is with me?

Proper cut blocks go through the thigh instead of the knee anyway. People who are hitting knees are doing it wrong and asking to injure somone.

The biggest risk I see with option offenses would be OL doing cuts downfield. Depends on how deep the LBs and run support Safety are. Otherwise it shouldn't be an issue.

Seriously? You are comparing the injury rate of hit batters to football?

The NFL cut concussions by half simply by slashing the number of kickoffs returned. The Ivy had zero kickoff related concussions after experimenting with kicking off at the 40.

The average MLB team has a player hit by a pitch in 2 out of every 5 games. Players get fined and suspended if they start playing beanball, the kickoff isn't a prohibited play.
