Exclamation Predict ECU's 2018 Football Record
Link to Tulsa

Hey All,

Another week down until kickoff. I planned on doing UConn this week but since someone just could not wait because their schedule is just chock-full of important offseason stuff, that plan has been disrupted. As a result, UConn is in timeout until I figure out what to do and how to manage the inconsistent data.

In the meantime, ECU is up so...

East Carolina (click for 2018 preview)

Your job is simple: Vote for the teams you think ECU will beat OR if you think ECU will beat none of them, only vote for the "Winless" option.

ECU fans, feel free to convince pollsters why or why not they should win every game on their schedule!

I'll post one poll a week until all 12 football teams are represented, in reverse order of conference finish. Each new post will link to the preceding ones, and polls will be open until the end of the 12 weeks.

For a more informed opinion, here's some reading material on their opponents:

USF

ODU

Temple

Houston

Memphis

Tulane

UCONN

Cincinnati

Results!

I will say, ECU has quite possibly the hardest in conference schedule of anyone in the American...

Houston, UCF, Memphis in back to back to back weeks, Tulane, Temple, and Cincinnati will be good, and opening with USF? oof.

That being said, if ECU was actually competitive, and had a modern day 2008-2009 type team that might actually be favored in these games, this is an outside shot of a playoff caliber schedule I think, and most of the heavy lifting is with the conference schedule.

We'll see. He still has to announce the results of the vote, and figure out how to make up for the lack of a winless option.

The only winless option on CSNBBS is Kruciff!

Well first and foremost, NC A&T and ODU are the obvious ones...

then you hope UNC or VT are caught off guard... probably UNC of the two.

So 3-1 absolute best case scenario..

After that you have to actively root for the scenario where several teams are behind schedule in their own rebuilds. Cincinnati, UConn, Tulane, Temple. I just don't see Memphis, Houston, or UCF losing to ECU. Maybe USF if they don't manage to find a QB and the Strong factor just doesn't work.

You could have simplified this by having a 12 win option.

Last three games are easy wins. Just gotta find those other 3 for the bowl. ODU, UNC@Chap and then sneak up on one of the stronger conference foes.

UNC comes to G-ville. Yep, that's 2 in a row. Go figure.

RE: Predict ECU's 2018 Football Record
Here's the down and dirty on ECU right now and their schedule.
1. OL is atrocious, so don't expect much of a running game.
2. Ahlers is the most 'game ready' QB on the roster, expect him to play (mistake) cause Mo thinks he might be worth a win or two.
3. Secondary is somewhat improved, but you won't be able to tell it by the 3rd and 4th qtrs.

NC A&T - Better than ECU on the practice field, smells blood from the JMU game last year. If Mo pulls some **** with the QB like last year and puts Ahlers in without giving one of the other guys a chance at a full game in their first start, A&T can probably win this one. My take on ECU's chances - 45%

UNC - Better than ECU on the practice field, wants revenge for the drubbing they took a couple years ago. UNC is almost as bad as ECU, but not quite. ECU's chances - 40%

@VT - No chance in hell. ECU - 0%

@ USF - ECU probably 0-3 heading to this one. ECU - 15%

ODU - Going to be closer than it should be. If ECU isn't completely demoralized they should squeak by. ECU - 60%

@ Temple - Nope, not even with a little momentum from beating ODU. ECU 35%

Houston - Nope. ECU - 10%

UCF - Nope - ECU 10%

Memphis - Nope - ECU - 10%

@ Tulane - Maybe.... ECU - 55%

UCONN - Keeps ECU from finishing last in the conference. ECU 70%

@ Cincy - If it were @ ECU I'd have it as a win. On the road to close out a dismal season... ECU - 45%

Now, as horrific as that is, ECU has the slimmest of margins to 6-6 and a bowl game. ECU has to win the two they should win on paper in ODU and UCONN, pick up a win against another solid FCS team in A&T, win two "tough" road games at Tulane and Cincy, and hope to survive the game to decide the worst team in the state by beating UNC. Any third year coach worth his salt should be able to do that.

From what I saw in the spring game, Herring would be the starting QB. Made decisions considerably quicker than Ahlers. But you could tell Ahlers looked like a man out there. He could have put up better numbers if they weren't playing touch football (on the QB).

Herring should be the starter, but even if Mo gives him the chance his leash will be too short. I expect to see Mo put Ahlers in by the middle of the 2nd qtr and then we're in for a repeat of last year's QB shuffle.

Only games I picked as wins were A&T, ODU, and UCONN, and I would be far from stunned if they lost any of those.

I would be pissed if Mo burns Ahlers's redshirt for the Mo dumpsterfire.

Be prepared to be pissed. I would be stunned if Holton doesn't play.

I want Ahlers to have 4 years playing for our new coach.
