You must not get out much. I live in the suburbs and there are plenty of UC fans. I work in Dayton and a growing number of UC fans here as well. UC is a national brand.

the suburbs you say, well i certainly don't get out as much as you. i'm talking about uc football. not uc in general though even uc basketball is marginalized nowadays. a telling sign is that people know xavier is in cincinnati. but i'm not complaining. far from it. this is our current hand and you underestimate the appeal of osu in a city of losers. by losers i mean the obvious and for the people who desperately cling to a winner to provide them with maximum sport's satisfaction when that's missing the point entirely. you're in the city, player. follow suit

if uc overall were a national brand we'd be in the big 12 or acc by now. uc's not a national brand. it's a step above temple

xavier is from Norwood. So, I guess people still don’t know where they are from. BYU is national brand and they are not in the B12 or ACC. When I say national brand, where ever I travel in this country people see my C Paw and immediately recognize and want to talk UC. You are typical of most Cincinnatians. The we will never be great so why aspire to anything crowd.

National brand is a subjective opinion I suppose. However there is objective data that suggests UC is a national brand. UC's licensed merchandise revenue continues to climb each year and was in the top 50 universities the last time I saw the published list. That's ahead of a fair number of P5 programs. Grab a magnifying glass to try finding X or most of the other new Big East schools on that list.

It certainly helps to have 300,000 living alumni--many thousands of them living in large metros coast to coast. From personal experience in my travels, the C-Paw logo, standing alone with no other reference to "Cincinnati", is instantly recognized and draws positive comments wherever I go in the continental 48.

I know we as UC fans want to win them all. But a majority of university fanbases would gladly trade places with UC the past decade: undefeated top five ranked football team, Sugar Bowl, Orange Bowl, eight NCAA bids and top five ranked basketball this past season. That, along with historic basketball tradition, helped build a national brand.

I live on the west coast and people recognize the C-Paw all the time and ask me about it.

Ironic. The adding of B10 network years ago was a reason I’ve not had cable for over 5 years. If this trend continues it certainly destroys the conference realignment argument for adding teams that move the tv needle.

I think moving the TV needle will still be the main driver. I think it destroys the notion that conferences should add a school to its members simply because it exists in a large market. They have assumed in the past that this will automatically bring their TV market with them (ex. cable companies will add BTN into the base package for the NYC area because Rutgers is in the B10). This has not proven to be the case and Comcast's severing of the BTN is the first domino to fall in a television landscape that is moving towards a direct subscription, ever so slowly.

UC has always proven that it can attract viewers. The UC v Houston game, both in the b-ball conference championships and in Tubs' last UH football game, pulled good TV ratings (I believe we outdrew P5 programs in multiple instances in the past few years despite not being in a major conference). If someone is looking to make a sound investment in the next round of conference alignment, they would be smart to look at UC as one of the top options as a result.

I live in a community (<100,000) in western Colorado that many (most?) of you folks likely have never heard of. For a time, There were three UC alumni here who graduated in the same class (1966), though we didn't know one another while at UC. One (recently deceased) was a county commissioner, and one is still a member of the city council. Now retired, I was Chief Ranger at a nearby national monument. Also some younger grads, two of whom were on the faculty at the local university and one an engineer for the state park system. No doubt there are others I don't know, including a young guy wearing a UC t-shirt I saw at a liquor store one day (maybe a doctor at one of our hospitals?). Several XU grads here, as well, one of whom also served on the city council a few years ago. Who would have guessed?

Anyway. people around here are familiar with our distinctive C-Paw, and I too get comments from people when I fly the colors.

I live in Fruita, a mountain-biking Mecca second only to Moab, and a sort of bedroom community 10 miles west of Grand Junction. It's a happening place.
