What a crazy statistic. We had our first tie under Coach Mac last year against Indiana. And, we only had one tie under Coach Cooney in his final year in '08 against Arkansas State. We'd had many ties in the 80's when our program was started and we played at the D2 level, but it's more common for D2.

I'd love to know the last time that everyone else had a tie.

UTSA has had baseball since 1992 (so 26 years now), and we have no ties yet.

Looking ahead... that tie would favor Rice or MTSU if either finish under .500 but with same # of W/L as say UTSA (with their cancelled game). Over .500 and the opposite is true. 14-15-1 beats 14-15 by percentage points. Or, 15-14 beats 15-14-1.

Based off the records of our last 2 head coaches we’ve had 1 tie in the last 1,077 games:

Corky Palmer 1998-2009: 409-160
Scott Berry 2010-present: 323-184-1

The tie happened in the 2015 season in a OOC tournament game in Pensacola vs Nicholls St. The game was called headed to bottom 7 due to rain. Per that game article it was the first tie since the 1984 season and oddly enough we had 2 ties that season. FWIW the coach from 1984-1997 was Hill Denson whom our field is named after.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southern...ll_seasons
**Berry’s record listed on wiki is only through the 2015 season

Or maybe 1946.

(04-15-2018 05:08 PM)Fort Bend Owl Wrote:  1958 perhaps? We do have a tie listed that year. Actually we sort of had one five days ago too in the UH game. For some reason, Gametracker was listing it as a 1-1 tie earlier this week (but of course we lost the game 1-0).

Rice Baseball Fact Book shows a 12-9-1 record in 1958, but the May 1958 Sallyport said that year's baseball team's record was 12-11. Spring 1958 Threshers did not indicate any ties ... but did not give results for all the games either.

The next-earliest tie was in the 1946 season, which the Fact Book notes as having a 7-10-1 record.

In that year, the Owls played the semi-pro Baytown Humble Oilers to a 5-5 tie in a game that, as reported in the April 4, 1946, Thresher, "was a great day for the Owl nine who Saturday reversed the old adage of looking good on paper and not on the field. ...

"That '105 in the shade' Saturday afternoon at Baytown must have taken some of the kinks out of the Owls, for they stood up and slugged it out with the Baytowners to a five-five deadlock. It was a game that had all the thrilling variety that makes for an exciting one—spectacular plays, fine spirit, good hitting, good fielding, and then too, a little dose of not-so-good fielding to touch it off."

What was the reason for the Rice/MT tie?

Travel time? Weather?

Yup, a travel curfew on Sundays. It's why we tied with Indiana last year as well.

I think our team celebrates Friday wins at the bar a bit too far into the morning hours because we can't win on Saturdays.

Our hitters have definitely enjoyed Sundays/game 3's of our weekend series:

Ms State - 5
UT Martin - 10
Nicholls St - 20
Georgia Southern - 8
UTSA - cancelled
FAU - 14
Rice - 6
WKU - 14 (7 innings)
FIU - 13 (7 innings)

While our team must not be used to waking up so damn early in the morning because we just can't win on Sundays. Haha.
