Latest FBI proceedings implicate Kansas
Since it’s been awhile since we’ve heard from the FBI (when is the nuclear bomb supposed to drop anyway?)...

Tuesday’s proceedings allege $90k funneled for De Sousa(?) to attend KU. Bill Self feeling heat.

Some well-connected Illinois folks for 15 years have maintained the Illini would’ve ended up on probation had Self stayed.

Well, somebody has to be the victim in a criminal case. 03-wink

And keep in mind, just because the institution is considered the victim in these indictments, doesn't necessarily mean the athletic departments of these schools will go untouched.

Besides, we all know that at the very least an assistant coach at each of these institutions knew what was going on and since JB was hit with the dreaded "failure to monitor" led to the most overly harsh sanctions (for what the violations were) in the history of the NCAAs for:

1) a total of $8000 distributed to 5 athletes (which averages to $1500 per athlete) at the local YMCA by the YMCA (with no university knowledge connection ever made);

2) assistance with a term paper for Fab Melo to try and help him maintain eligibility in 2011-12 (this at least was actually done by the Athletic Department staff so this is valid); and

3) the fact the school didn't follow it's own optional drug policy exactly as written (although JB admitted that he didn't even know what the policy in its entirety was prior to 2009, so that didn't help 03-lmfao ).

This resulting in a 12 scholarship reduction over 4 years, loss of 108 wins, and a 9-game suspension for JB. Just shaking my head at the crap that we and the NCAAs know has gone on at PSU, UNC, Miami (where the NCAA shot itself in the foot, not that the violations weren't real) and likely now all the institutions above that will likely go unpunished with the possible exception of show-cause penalty that the assistants involved could get so that the NCAA can congratulate themselves on the vital role they play in college athletics. What a farce.

End of rant. 04-chairshot

Cheers,
Neil

That shoe maker isn't under this microscope.

It'll happen, though. Everyone's going to start flipping on other people and programs.

One outcome out of this whole thing I'd like to see is greater scrutiny and understanding of how schools transfer kids around when things don't work out. Not just the bidding war and payoff for networking, but when someone doesn't fit or make it, does the process pick back up again? Or, like with UK, and they hire a world-class guy who axes every kid that isn't his, and the school eagerly complies, is there perhaps greater awareness at the institutional level in the transfer process (because there is added compliance and work involved) of such gray areas, that this DOES go deeper within the institution than coaches.

At least they didn't use hookers and their coach, who UL later hired, didn't use university money to pay the woman he was having an affair with.

I bet all the top 30 basketball programs get tainted in some way.
