RE: Wrestling Program Endowment?
Notice that I did not bring this up.
The truth is we're losing some our best and brightest as both the wrestlers and swimmers competed at a high level athletically and academically.
Here are a couple of examples.
- The wrestling team placed 11th in the nation in GPA.
- A freshman swimmer was picked up quickly by a P5 school.
By comparison, the football team has some high academic achievers, but as a team they cannot compare. The basketball team cannot compare. Athetically, both teams compete at a lower level than swimming and wrestling. Neither has a sophomore to be that would be snapped up by a P5 program.
Making the budget work might be difficult, but we shouldn't take the easy way out just because it's easy.
Here are some ways to save some money just off the top of my head.
- The football team stays in dorms for home games.
- They get one uniform for home games and one for road games.
- They get one helmet.
- Dump plans for a new scoreboard and persuade the donors give the money to the athletic department without condition.
- Cut five scholarships from football. I guarantee there are at least five guys that will never contribute in a meaningful way. Phase it in so nobody has their scholarship yanked.
- Have the team play two power five road games each year to increase revenue.
- Dump The Factory gimmicky stuff. It's worn out already.

Just when the football program has turned around with solid coaching, increased financial support, facilities, etc. someone comes along and wants prune it to save an Olympic sport...
If you want to castrate football to save wrestling, you'll get the support of about 2 posters here... and I will not be one of them.

Cut football fat to keep our best student athletes.
Nothing I suggested cutting is necessary to tackle, block, run and pass.

Of course, not.
Keep a scoreboard which is among the worst in FBS. I have made a 5-year pledge for the CBP and I am NOT in favor of the school re-allocating my gift. Period.
For reasons I do not understand you have placed wrestling, a minor Olympic sport, over football, which is the primary sport in FBS.
As E'Tough would say, "next subject..."

A modest scoreboard tells us all we need to know. Let others waste their money.
I'm not putting one sports above another. But I'm not willing to dump student athletes while there is obvious waste elsewhere.

Guys, just let it die. Stop responding to all of this garbage. It’s a vocal minority making a stink about a decision that will not change. Stop giving them a voice.

Serious Q for Steve: as a planned gift donor to the CBP--have they told you that the main donor (P2C Foundation) has rescinded their gift? Or have they told you why the plans are being changed (i.e. why the website is now CBP 2.0 coming in 2018)?

I haven't asked. My gift isn't big by most standards so I don't bother asking (although maybe I should).
I would prefer that the information come out through EMU than me.

DON'T LET THE WHINING MINORITY RUIN A GREAT PLAN. INVEST HEAVILY IN FOOTBALL AND CREIGHTON. The ONLY sport that will move the needle at all for EMU if it can be turned into a successful program.
