UCONN is Connecticut's favorite to win their FBS conference too.

It's BS that UCF just whipped Auburn, and UCF is bringing back the majority of its team, yet Auburn is ranked #7 and UCF is ranked #55, and not even best in its own league. SMH

Who will be the Tiger QB this year ?

Between Paxton Lynch and Riley Ferguson you guys have a nice little qb lineage starting to blossom, hopefully.

FWIW, Paxton is from my town of Deltona. Went to a small little school near my house. I'm rooting for him but for whatever reason, the Broncos haven't given him an honest shake to either win or lose the job. At this point John Elway pissed away that first round pick if he isn't at least going to let him play.

Big reason why Kirk Cousins didn't sign with Denver, IMO. He saw how that organization has handled their QB issues and wants no part of it.

Either Brady White, a transfer from AZ State, who already knows Norvell's offense, or David Moore. It's early, but I think it will be White, who was highly ranked coming out of HS.

No they're not.

Well on the playoff selection show they reference them a lot under the resume segment

I have to admit, I’m surprised we were picked over UCF with our QB issue.

I have to agree. I mean, seriously-you guys return pretty much all of your offense and most of your key players on defense minus Griffin...the idea that you all shouldn't be favorites is ridiculous.
I just want someone to take the reigns of the QB job. 9-10 wins this year will keep building USF's program.

Hey, I'm not a "you guy" from UCF, lol. I'm a Memphis guy. I still think UCF got hosed, though.

This story is pretty much just a bump from when the actual ESPN listing was posted, and I don't even care because it's football. Welcome back SPORTS!

No they're not.

Well on the playoff selection show they reference them a lot under the resume segment

The Tampa Bay Times article linked to both the 1-130 projected FPI rankings, AND to the ESPN writeup ABOUT the FPI projections. The latter was downright silly, because it provided various projections based off the projections, which are themselves based on last year's stats, stats lost, and recruiting. The Seth Walder writeup about the FPI Projections, though had links to explainers on the FPI and the ESPN "Strength of Record."

The FPI explainer http://www.espn.com/blog/statsinfo/post/...ollege-fpi tells you that FPI is a predictor. In fact, they'll say specifically " it is not designed to identify the four teams most deserving of making the College Football Playoff. ESPN has other metrics, including Strength of Record, that can be used to identify the most deserving teams."

The Strength of Record (explained at http://www.espn.com/blog/statsinfo/post/...ving-teams )does that. In fact, SoR is ESPN's analytics geeks' attempt to reverse engineer what the Committee meant when they started talking about comparing records back in '14. That linked explainer, in fact is all about comparing Marshall's record during their '14 run at the NY6. They did the reverse engineering with Game Control when the Committee spokessuits kept mentioning that in the early days; the Committee hasn't played the Game Control card as much the last couple years, but ESPN still has the in game % chance of winning graphs, which are fun to look at when they swing from 99% one way to 99% the other on a Hail Mary.

So the ESPN talking heads will cite THEIR stat for Strength of Record when talking about the Commttee's rankings, and they'll cite THEIR FPI when looking ahead at games. But the Committee doesn't use them. You can find any number of articles by the journalists who get to come in and play a committee member and do a mock run of committee rankings using pre-CFP seasons. These articles go as far as saying that the committee members have a lot of stats, different analytical rankings, different measures of strength of schedule, but they'll never say what specifically the members have at their disposal.

They'll never say how they rank in a closed-room committee cause it's an invitational, not a playoff.

Under what logic? I don’t think our offense skips a beat and all reports say we are running even faster than last year. D took a hit with some players graduating but I think we will be better unit under Randy Shannon’s guidance.

I just looked up past 100 years of Iowa State Football...it was just 2 sentences long:(I will summarize): Zero Conf Championships, One divisional title, Zero NYD Bowls and just 2 completed seasons ranked in the AP Top 25.

No clue who Auburn lost...but UCF lost some key players, especially those that left early for NFL.

UCF lost all 3 TE's (including Akins who left early to NFL), their #1 WR Smith who also left early to the NFL, plus 3 OL.

Numerous losses on DL, obviously losing Griffen at LB, plus UCF lost #1 DB/Kick-Punt Returner Hughes who left early as well to the NFL.

Yes, Milton and most RB's are back...but with new offense, switch to 4/3 Defense and losing key players early to the NFL, UCF has some question marks entering the 2018 season....but being ranked #55 is certainly laughable...and hopefully incorrect by season's end.

Most of the other UCF fans have been saying basically most of the team returns, so I took them at their word, didn't look it up. I wasn't that interested, lol.

Who will be the Tiger QB this year ?

So-and-so 4 star. I hear (based on nothing) that he's the next big thing.

ESPN is dishonest. Can you imagine what will happen if the AAC goes with nbc or Fox in 2020??
Yes you can if you were in CUSA before this...

Both NBC and Fox have decent online platforms so I'm fine if this happens. ESPN's online streaming has been trash over the last 1-2 seasons.
