RE: Football Spring Open Practice Details - Time changed to 730am
I felt like the crowd was halfway decent last year. But agree it was great when we were playing at a high level. I also seem to recall more advertising for it back then. They made it up to be much more of an event. Billboards, ads, etc.

I had my club tickets all ready to go and now considering skipping for the first time in many years.

I know winning cures all ills, but I think the fact it is not televised and advertised more is a major killer in this event gaining any momentum. . IIRC back in the day it was broadcast on Fox 19 and then later on Fox Sports Ohio. If memory serves me right, we had a huge crowd in 2007 and that was before BK started winning 10 games a year here.

In Butch's second year, they started limiting the broadcast to a Coach's Show where they showed some highlights. It has never had the same enthusiasm in the community ever since.

These drew great when UC was playing at an elite level. Need to start winning again before these become a thing.

I don't disagree, and even in the Tubs era, they had some big crowds on hand.

I actually heard an interview with Coach on Cincinnati.com (Don't worry, I don't pay) and he said that he thought they'd get more out of a practice than a spring game. He said they'll open with a scrimmage and then do some situational stuff.

That's true. I feel like the average UC fan wouldn't even know the spring game is this weekend. BK had the benefit of some great weather days for the spring game back then. Butch had awful weather just about every year IIRC.

In Tubervilles first year, there was no spring game because of coaching turnover. In his second year, I estimated about 5000 down at Paul Brown. Subsequently, they moved it to Sheakley where I estimated about two to three thousand.

Is anyone at the spring open practice this morning? How do we look? Do any of the quarterbacks stand out?

My group decided to pass last minute. I'm also interested in any updates as well.

This is so BUSH League.

Fans could have stepped into the Club if the rain was too much.

RE: Football Spring Open Practice Details - Time changed to 730am
Looking at the weather radar, I am thinking the time change was rather smart.
Coach Fickell wants to evaluate his players in decent conditions and avoid injuries. Its not just about us fans.

There is something to be said for getting players used to bad weather, but I don't think that doing the spring "game" in a downpour would add that much to their development.

(Truth in posting - I live about 90 minutes drive north, so I was not planning to be there.)

The weather is beautiful this morning. But now I am painting my living room.

Thought the same thing. The weather has actually been ideal for a football game.

Michigan, Wisconsin, and Iowa all cancelled their games as well.

What a bunch of sissy mid-majors.

If we were in the big 12 we wouldn't have cancelled (sarc).

Still can't find any details anywhere on the interwebs. Saw some pictures on the gobearcats FB page. In one of the pictures I could see 3 fans in the stands. Maybe that was the official attendance?

I heard that a certain President who will remain nameless forced the Canadian air into Nippert to continue cryogenic cooling of the #hottestcollegeinamerica.

I think Dave Currey had 7 folks in attendance at his last Spring game.

Dave Currey deserved to have more people present at his firing. His own team was trying to get him fired at the end.

Dave Currey was Tuberville before tuberville. Glad I did not drive two hours to the "scrimmage" since there was zero running plays and most of the work was special teams. However, all is not doom and gloom. It appears the line is in much better shape relative to last year.
