Doesn't get mentioned much but UAB has a club lacrosse team (along with hockey & rugby).

Saw them out practicing at the soccer field late last night.

They had a table last Fall at orientation. They have pretty cool jerseys as well.

They are also pretty good.

Lacrosse, like ice hockey and basketball is gender equal for Title 9 concerns. Girls play in the same numbers as boys if the school decides to have both teams (though girls are often given Field Hockey as a choice).

Alternatively could shuffle the women's scholarship sports into Women's LAX or Field Hockey without having to add men's sports. Interesting to consider because we have that beautiful new soccer field and maybe worth playing with the ACC or Big East schools (if they wanted to invite a newcomer).

A more locally popular sport, but would invite too much in state politics, is Gymnastics in the SEC.

They've been around for a while now it seems. I know the coach, he's an IT guy at UAB

I like the lacrosse jerseys way better than the hockey jerseys (unless they're different this year from last year)

The sport is huge here in VA. One of my kids from church youth group is playing at Montevallo

You are starting to see high school teams pop up here & there within the state that play it as well.
