Announced on his Twitter today that he is declaring for the NBA Draft, but won't be hiring an agent so that he won't forfeit his last year of eligibility at Troy.

From selfish standpoint, I sure hope he stays.

I find the whole have to declare thing asinine. The baseball system is so superior. Use your draft pick and take your chances. Burden should be on the pro team, not the player.

Basketball should adopt all of the rules baseball uses. Eligible to go right out of high school, if you go to college stay 3 years, and then handle junior draftees the same as you suggested. No reason to have such different rules for each sport.

I love the hockey system. You can get drafted and still go to college and the team that drafts you owns your rights. If you stay all four years and choose not to sign with the team that drafted you, you become a free agent and free to sign with any team.

For example, the Blackhawks drafted Dylan Sikura in 2014 and he signed with Northeastern. He played all 4 years, but still chose to sign with the Blackhawks instead of becoming a free agent. Northeastern’s season ended this past Sunday, he signed his deal and he was in the Blackhawks lineup the following Thursday.
