Evans shines in ULM's first spring scrimmage

Sounds good, but still worries me about defense.
No offense here as none is intended. ULM has had some outstanding QB's in recent years while UL can't find one other than LSU rejects. How do you get them and UL can't as I tend to think that UL and La.Tech has advantages that ULM doesn't. Advantages such as money, facilities, larger investment in football, etc,..What's the secret?

Well they did have Bridgewater. I’d say he was a pretty dang good QB.

I see you haha. If the defense can even average 28 or so ppg against we're gonna be hard to beat. Kind of glad that Smith is leaving establishes Evans as the man and gives him even more confidence

Although our facilities are in the process of improving I think part of the secret is that because our expectations are much lower than the Techsters (who have pretty insane expectations), or ULL it allows the coaches more leash to play QBS as freshmen and allow them to develop instead of having a win-now mentality. We also have a lot of staff continuity usually which also helps develop QBs. The QB evaluation has been pretty good as well I don't know how we got Evans considering who his brother is as well as his frame and athleticism (I wish we would have gotten Newton's brother as well but oh well).

Good question and not so sure there’s any easy answer. We have been blessed with some very good QBs over the years ( Humphries, Brister, Pederson, Browning, etc and now Evans). Even guys like Bob Lane, Raymond Philyaw and Pete Thomas were pretty dang good and had either played at the professional level or made camps. Some of it was just plain luck, good recruiting and good coaching/development. Pederson, Humphries, Brister and Browning had great talent around them too. Also, most people don’t know Brister, Humphries and Pete Thomas were transfers from P5 programs and were highly recruited out of HS. Humphries came from LSU, Brister from Alabama/Detroit Tigers/Tulane and Thomas from NC State. Browning started as a RS Freshman and developed. Same with Evans. Any way you shake it, we were very happy to have them. We’ve also missed on some guys. As far as ULL is concerned Broadway was very solid and you can’t forget Jake Delhomme who had a great college and pro career. Hopefully our luck continues.
