Nice article. I'm not sure that $4m/yr. x 20 years is quite the same as "UAB didn't have to pay for it.", but there was cooperation that made it happen.

It was, but I keep seeing this language. It might have been bumped during the process Tuesday before the vote.

"The stadium isn't just for UAB, obviously, but the Blazers will be the venue's first permanent tenant. UAB is signing a 20-year lease with the BJCC Authority to play there. The Dragon's Den could be completed by the 2020 season, and it will seat between 45,000 and 55,000 fans. The design of the stadium is still being determined, and Ingram is representing UAB on the official design committee."

I thought UAB was agreeing to provide $4M/yr for 10 years through sponsorship agreements/corporate donations AND sign a 20 year lease for playing games at fair market value rental payments.
