If there is a basis of fact like with the Tarleton State D1 study (you posted), then we can discuss the possibilities of how it can help the WAC. But throwing in a myriad of DII schools into the mix without similar supporting facts is just pointless. I for one do not want to discuss a WAC alignment that is simply rolling around in your brain.

You do get that when some officials at the WAC headquarters mentioned that they have been contacted by many D2 schools that are interested in moving up. One article, I believed on Bleacher Report, listed the top 50 schools to invite to the WAC. Utah Valley, Grand Canyon, California Baptist, Seattle, CSU-Bakersfield, Chicago State, UTRGV and NJ Tech were on that list that was correct. The others mentioned are the schools that have been mentioned in this thread. So, if any of these names come up? They came up being mentioned on sporting news websites.

Don't have one right now, but it was Tweeted by a WAC sports writer from the 2012 WAC media days for football which was the last year. It was questions to Hurd that mentioned some possibilities of saving the WAC football or to save the WAC. You have Lamar pursuing a WAC invite for all sports including FBS football. He also mentioned that Denver and Seattle at the time put football on the table. The talks that fell through between the WAC and the MVFC merge for football only fell through because MVFC wanted the WAC to boot Idaho. Also mentioned a lot of D2 schools in talks that wanted to move up. Two of them already in:Grand Canyon and California Baptist
The schools from D2 that wanted to move up are in California and Texas with hints of Azusa pacific, Cal. Poly-Pomona and Dixie State came up and West Texas A&M at the time from Texas. WAC still have the clout to move up into from D2 than some of the other conferences.

If so, your relying on 6 year old information. A lot has changed since 2012. Pretty vague to say WAC Sports writer.

RE: Tarleton State's Consultant Study To Joining FCs And WAC, SLC
Six years ago, the WAC still had a viable football conference and the group of DII schools interested in joining the conference were a lot different from the ones available to us now. That all changed when Louisiana Tech and UT San Antonio joining C-USA and Mr. Peanut left the WAC for the Sun Belt and took UTA and Texas State along with him. He threw NMSU and Idaho a safety rope in football but that was only to buy time while he sorted out the Sun Belt membership.

Right now, there is no intension to start football in the WAC again. The conference is filled out with too many non-football schools to start an FCS conference now. So, any D2 school looking to move up to D1 in Olympic sports by joining the WAC needs to not have a football team or have external plans to house their football program moving forward. That makes the pool of prospect D2 schools very specific and very small. i.e. Tarleton State might be able to join the WAC if they can house the football program in either the Southland, Missouri Valley Football Conference, or the non-scholarship Pioneer league. But there are a finite number of FCS football slots available for these D2 football programs. So, they move up to the FCS level. And, this has to be external to the WAC's membership needs.

I have a strange thought that this might work out.

The WAC, Southland and The Big Sky are in talks right now. There are several D2 schools that could move up, but have no place to go with football.

WAC gets Incarnate Word and Abilene Christian to free up room for Southland to take Tarleton State, Kingsville and Central Oklahoma in the future. I think Southland is holding a spot open for Central Oklahoma for all sports.

WAC gets Southern Utah, UC-Davis, Cal. Poly and Sacramento State plus Northern Arizona from the Big Sky. Big Sky could then get Central Washington, Colorado Mesa, Simon Fraser and Western Oregon.

WAC football:
Azusa Pacific
Hunboldt State
UC-Davis football only
Cal. Poly football only
Sacramento State
Northern Arizona
CSU-Peublo
West Texas A&M
Abilene Christian
Incarnate Word
Dixie State
Southern Utah
Grand Canyon and Seattle would finally get into the WCC by then, Chicago State be gone, UTRGV restarts their football program and UMKC goes back to the Summitt.

Big Sky:
Central Washington
Eastern Washington
Simon Fraser
Portland State
Western Oregon
Weber State
Idaho
Idaho State
Colorado mesa
Northern Colorado
Montana
Montana State

Southland:
UCA
McNeese State
NW. Louisiana State
Nicholls State
SE Louisiana
Lamar
Sam Houston State
SFA
Tarleton State
Kingsville
Central Oklahoma
Houston Baptist

That could be a setup that could get the WAC to have an FCS football conference.
