Now this amuses me. Why didn't they just pay Mack 28 million (4 million for 7 years) like Louisville did instead of 1.7 million per?

That's the bottom of what Marshall would cost.

Wow, I'm a bit surprised at that. Where is he projected to go in most mocks?

A lot of late 1st round projections slip to the 2nd round because of all the European draft and stash picks.

Everyone expected him to declare without an agent and make a decision after the combine. Stating that he WILL forgo his JR & SR years is surprising at this point.

So who is Wichita's starting PG next year? The 2nd year juco transfer? His name is escaping me at the moment.

Haynes-Jones is who you're thinking of.

I think he might end up transferring, the kid dealt with some pretty severe performance anxiety problems this year which was part of the reason his minutes were so limited. Its sad because he's a local kid who's goal was to play at WSU, but he might be better off transferring to one of the local D2 programs to finish his career.

Hopefully we can land a kid that is ready to contribute immediately. Otherwise Austin Reaves will likely be the starting PG early in the year and he's much better as a SG.

That's the $64,000 question.

You're talking about Samajae Haynes-Jones. He's been battling anxiety issues which limited his ability to contribute much. He had some great games against overmatched opponents like Savannah State. I don't know if he'll be able to start next year, let alone play for us. Some are speculating he may transfer out.

Right now it seems like our top recruiting target is former UConn commit James Akinjo. If he ends up with us, that's our starting PG next year. We're also in the mix for the top rated JUCO PG, and some other high school senior PGs who haven't committed yet. The pickin's are slim.

Akinjo.

Our starting PG will legitimately be a player not yet signed. If we strike out on everyone we’ll have to start Austin Reaves at PG and just run some insanely stupid giant lineup.

Tyler Harris from Memphis is still available. Doesn’t seem like he will end up at Memphis. You’d be up against Baylor, but he wants to go somewhere he can play immediately

I think we were recruiting him at some point. We really need a true PG and Harris strikes me as a 2 guard in a PG sized package.

RE: AAC basketball news thread
Tons of minutes at PG now!

It's good for Landry though. Hope he gets everything he is after! Can't blame him.

Hurts WSU in the short term. But I am not worried about long term. Still some good talent coming in. If we can land a recruit like Akinjo or maybe grab a grad transfer PG then Shockers won't drop a ton.

Expectations will be lower next year anyway obviously. Marshall has been good finding that underrated talent and getting the pieces he needs. He overrecuits for situations like these. Just have to hope one (or more) of the targets say yes.
