Can we have a "must remain with school through the end of contract" clause to keep him around the long!? Doug is a man with a plan that knows how to get the job done and we are lucky to have him as long as he will stay! I expect he will move on up the ladder fairly soon unfortunately for us.

This is extremely good news. Doug Gillin has done more for Appalachian Athletics than all the AD's that proceeded him. It's gonna be tough, but we need to all we can to keep him in Boone as long as possible.

Boy I wish we did what App did and upgraded to an FBS level AD when we moved to FBS as opposed to keeping our FCS level AD to run our FBS programs.

We just got very fortunate. Cobb left a month after the FBS jump in August 2014 for GSU-Atlanta, ironically, a year after signing a four-year extension. He had a great 2005-2010 (helped by football but he still guided the growth), but 2010-2014 was rocky, even with the great single years of baseball and softball in 2012/13. It was time for fresh ideas.

Imagining the collective "F---" responses from conference brethren if/when it's announced Scott Satterfield re-signs.

Honestly though this is how we get better as a conference. Each school identifying great coaches and ADs and doing everything they can to keep them. Neal Brown at Troy. Terry Mohajir at stAte. Others for sure (help me out). When a big time program comes to poach there's little we can do to stop it, but if we can keep other G5s and smaller P5s at bay we're doing the right things.

Well I would hope your AD would re-sign him. Otherwise he's pretty dumb.

No one will be surprised by that. What will surprise everyone is if he's still in Boone within the next few years if ya'll keep winning at the same level.

You still think that Larry's running Athletic Programs at TXST? Hell, I thought the whole Department was on Cruise Control . . .

That's my point. Satterfield got restructuring/extension last year. The question is can our AD offer him enough to keep him around longer than we rightfully should.
