Close the book on 2017-2018
OK, I'm going to try and be positive here...
The 2017-2018 season is over. (Just a fact.)
It was a helluva season, a really great ride. I can honestly say that I love this particular Bearcat team. I loved watching them play, I loved watching them win the AAC regular Conference and Tournament Championships. I wish we could have beat X and I wish we could have beaten Wichita State at home and Houston on the road down the stretch, but that's life.
Overall, a great season with a bitter end.
Feel free to share your better memories on the season here.

The high of the win at Wichita State and conference tournament championship were the highlights for me. Senior night was special too. Playing game at NKU made for an odd season because it never felt that UC wa the home team there. I can't wait to be back at Fifth Arena to see the new arena and the new conference championship banners. At least this team earned some hardware for the effort. Sad ending because they lost the big lead. I hope the coaching staff and players recover from this better than the fans do.

The epic loss tonight overshadows the entire season.
It will take a long long time to get over it.
No one on this board will have any confidence in a future Bearcat team to get beyond the round of 32 after this debacle as long as Mick remains the coach.
I feel badly for Gary and Kyle. They deserved to go out better.
Out.

Will this moment be as well remembered as Kenyon breaking his leg? That memory might be more heartbreaking, but this is one is CERTAINLY more humiliating...

This board is going to be insufferable.
It was bad before for good reason, and it’s going to get worse. This is our reality.

I was thinking along the same lines that this would be another one to add to dubious Bearcat lore: Kenyon's leg, Gerry McNamara, WVU banked 3, UCLA double-OT, etc. etc. The difference is though those we're all fickle plays/events, whereas this one was entirely preventable. I started to become uncomfortable when we were still up by 20 b/c I saw all the threes getting chucked up, and kindof expected Cumberland to get yanked then, but then when he wasn't pulled with 4 fouls I thought to myself "No good can come from this." I still don't quite know what just happened in the last couple hours.
Oh well, I didn't do any yelling (probably would've calmed down a little quicker though). Tomorrow the sun will still come up, family is still here, and I'll still bleed red and black.

You're way ahead of me. Here in Wichita, the sun probably will NOT come up today, as there is a big storm moving through. But, this whole region is in a drought, so I guess the lack of sun today is welcome news in this case.
Problem is, my vitamin D level got completely sapped in the course of about 20 minutes last night :(

The most joy I've had from a season in a long time. This team was a great Bearcat team that achieved a ton, but maybe had the biggest self inflicted missed opportunity of all time. I firmly believe this was a top 5 team and to blow a game you were firmly in control of by getting away from what you were doing all game is devastating. With the bracket completely open, this team was a top 3 favorite to win the entire thing when UC was up 22 points (Both duke and nova were on the other side of the bracket). Given the circumstances this one will sting for a long long time, despite the great memories and achievements of the season.

well, sadly but true, UC has most of the time been caught in the round of 32 over the years. Is it just coincidence or fate? who knows? UC usually has a lot of bad luck in tournament games and it happened under CATLETT, HUGGINS, and CRONIN. Odds are that if another coach is eventually here, that it continues for a while. Is that a reason to jump ship? I think moar of us have been spoiled where we didn't have a lot of tragedies surround our lives. We should thank God for that instead of whining ' WOE IS ME' all of the time.

You know, that's a nice thought and you are entirely correct... but I think most of us on here are speaking though our sports fan personas which would certainly be immediately deemphasized if a true tragedy suddenly came along.
That said, this team ranks up there with my favorites in UC history. I just wish this season could have been played in the Shoe. There's just
something not clicking in my brain when I think back to the games and there's a black and gold Viking ship under them.
That last game though was almost (sports fan persona speaking) ...downright cruel. I just have this loop running through my mind of being up 22 with less than 12 minutes left and thinking "come on, how can we lose this?" and then watching it happen.
I'm looking forward to next season back in the Shoe. For some reason I'm strangely drawn to the upper level in the corners. Coming from the square that it was before, I think that location will offer a really fantastic vantage point.
