RE: Hoops next year
I agree with a lot of the above. STL.....I think that both Murphy and Green will be better and I hope that Miller can be better, too. He was a bit of a disapointment last year. We need all three, especially in the OOC games.
Evan, wins and losses are important but OOC wins are a big deal to the selection committee. And there a lot of other variables. I forget. Did Hofstra make it to the CAA final that year?

RE: Hoops next year
A lot of it depends on how well the other CAA teams play OOC. If I recall correctly (going by memory) we had some at large bids in the 2008-2011 years in the 8-10 loss range

I would love to get back to when the CAA had more respect.......before Old Dominion, VCU and George Mason bolted. Don't think we're there yet.

We’re pretty far from it. I don’t think we’ll get three bids in this league ever again.

Getting two would be an accomplishment.

This is it for Miller and Green. There’s no more college hoops for them, so they, especially Miller, need to play big for us.

RE: Hoops next year
I think several CAA teams have done all they can do with the good nonconference scheduling. Now, some of those big games have to be won. You guys, COC, UNCW and the Tribe all have pretty strong nonconference schedules. BTW, Northeastern is the team to beat this season. I expect the top 5 to be (Northeastern, COC, W&M, Hofstra and UNCW). Not sure what the order will be, but would be shocked to see any of the bottom five ahead of any of these.

On the at large bid prospects, I am super skeptical of it unfortunately. The CAA does not seem to get a fair shake. Part of that might be sending 2 teams all the way to the final four in the past. In both those years, the CAA got multiple teams in. No better way to prevent that than to not let them in again. Many years I had no issue, but a couple years ago when the CAA was ranked 8 or 9 as a league, it was disappointing. Would much rather see a quality mid-major program get an at large, than a team with a 7-11 conference record from a P5.

Yeah there are still some CAA teams who schedule some poor teams. Nothing we can do about that. Let’s hope all we all can get some signature wins this season.

RE: Hoops next year
Tribe...I agree. There is always the chance that two of us will really tear it up, get lots of quality OOC wins and cruise to the conference tourney finals. Short of that we are a one bid conference, for now. I do think that we are close to being a one bid NCAA and an almost auto NIT bid conference. We came really close last year. I think that is our intermediate goal.

The best chance at an at-large bid for the conference is to have the top 4-5 teams play tough OOC schedules, and for the rest to play easy ones. If the bottom teams all have very easy schedules and go somewhere between 9-3 and 7-5 OOC, it greatly helps the top teams. The top teams RPI's will benefit greatly, because opponent's record is such a big piece of the RPI, and since we play the bottom teams 2-3 times a season, the better their record, the better the top teams' RPIs. And when the top teams have good RPIs, it then gives us higher RPI quadrant games. If we can get 2 teams in the top 50 RPI and another 2 in the top 100, it will make everyone at the top look better.

Just noticed that Eastern Michigan was added to the schedule. That's the team that Ty Groce dumped us for.

Yep. He’ll be in Matthews in a few months. We got something for him!

RE: Hoops next year
So much for RPI. RPI will no longer be used by the selection committee. I felt like we were finally learning how to create a schedule to get a higher RPI...

Anyway, I think this might help the CAA get an at large team maybe? The bottom teams won't drag the top teams down if the top teams win by 10. But honestly who knows. This might be a way to allow even fewer mid major teams into the tournament.

They have us at 69 this year and finishing first in the CAA. Others of note....

Hofstra 93
Charleston 118
Harvard 104
Vermont 106

They're counting down from number 144 so others we play OOC are yet to be rated.
