Or did his "late" start, i.e. UC suspension and injury in his rookie year, limit his potential numbers to gain entry?

Too early to tell. Right now he's either the best or second best TE in the league and has been for a year or two. If he stays at that level for another 5 years and KC looks like they are a perennial Super Bowl contender like they look set up to do he'll be in the conversation.

Are you talking about the James P. Kelly Athletics Hall of Fame or the Ring of Honor at Nippert Stadium?
Sorry. The National Football League Hall of Fame.

https://csnbbs.com/thread-845745-page-4.html

For his career, he compares favorably to good tight ends. For his number of years in the league, he compares favorably to many in the HOF.

Well if it is NFL I doubt his UC suspension will be a factor there. I think he is on pace to being a Hall-of-Famer, just will need a few more years of doing what he is currently doing, and collecting some hardware along the way.

Probably 5 more years like this and he would be a lock. Honestly 3 would give him a shot since his numbers are ridiculously good. He has been a top 5 tight end almost since he entered the league.

I think he would need 5 more years at minimum. There are only 8 tight ends in the hall of fame (though there will be two more in Gonzalez and Gates once they retire), and his stats compare favorably, though he would need to keep it up. The fact that he already has two All Pro nods definitely helps.

I referenced suspension as delaying his nfl start. he was a relatively old 25 during his rookie year. would have been nice to accumulate some stats like 22-23 rookies did.

Tight Ends now are so different than they used to be. Guys like Gronk and Kelce are putting up WR numbers.

I think both Kelce brothers are having hall of fame type careers so far.

Travis needs to put up a few more injury free good years. For comparison, Greg Olsen has 25 more TD's and almost 3000 more yards than Kelce, but both are 3 time Pro-bowlers. I've seen mixed reviews on whether Olsen will even make the HoF.

No doubt his career can't end tomorrow. I think he's tracking that way, but longevity matters. He still has more to accomplish.

Jason?...not likely. He's only a 2 time Pro-Bowler. Kevin Mawae played center and went to 8 Pro bowls and was first time All Pro 7 times and he hasn't been elected. Jason's already been in the league 8 years. He probably won't play long enough to get to 6 (or more) Pro-bowls.

PFF's early picks for the 2019 Pro Bowl

Quote:NFC Centers

Jason Kelce (82.3) & Corey Linsley (75.6)

Kelce is once again the highest-graded center in the NFL and makes absurdly athletic blocks on a weekly basis. It’s great to see Linsley bounce back himself after an injury-hampered 2017 season that was his lowest-graded as a pro.

Quote:AFC Tight Ends

Travis Kelce (88.4) & Jared Cook (78.4)

Kelce’s merits are obvious at this point, but Cook has been much more of a surprise. He’s quickly become Derek Carr’s favorite target and is fifth among tight ends with 2.05 yards per route. He’s having a career year in his 10th NFL season.

So UC (2) actually has twice the Pro Bowlers on this list than the Bengals (1).

RE: Bearcats in the NFL - 2018
So, not the NFL, but as of right now a few more former Bearcats have popped up on rosters in the AAF. Nick Temple and Mekale McKay are on the San Antonio squad and Jeff Luc is on Atlanta's team.

I could have sworn Kendall Calhoun was on a roster there at some point, but I'm not finding him now. Same goes for Nick Truesdell. I've only just glanced though.

EDIT: Kendall Calhoun is on the Atlanta roster with Luc. EDIT2: And Truesdell is on the Salt Lake squad, if you want to count him.

Yup! Cleveland Heights High School. Should be a good recruiting connection for Fick.

RE: Bearcats in the NFL - 2018
Conner Barwin released by Giants...

Quote:The Connor Barwin era in East Rutherford lasted just six months.

Barwin was released by the New York Giants on Monday after one season with the team.

The 32-year-old linebacker started three of 15 games played for Big Blue in 2018. Barwin saw over 30 snaps a game in New York's first five tests, but barely saw the field during the season's final three-quarters.

Barwin finished with just one sack and a career-low 12 total tackles.

Barwin signed a two-year deal with the Giants in the offseason and will count just $365K against the cap in 2019.
