RE: Basketball scheduling format to change again?
Here's what ridiculous. App and Coastal only playing the GSUs once this past year and next season in basketball while playing the Texas's and Arkansas's twice each year.

IMO, there's no need for more than 16 conference games if you only get one bid and have more than 9 members. Either play 16 and have divisions and seed the tournament by divisions or ditch the conference tournament and play a 22-game double round-robin where the regular season champion gets the bid.

There's been overthinking about basketball scheduling for 4 years now.

I think we only play you guys once next year. We have to sit out the Alabama schools next year, and we've already sat out Texas and Georgia in the rotation. It's either you guys or the Louisiana schools.

A 22 game conference schedule is not going to happen. And the coaches and ADs insist all 12 teams go to the tourney in the absence of a total round robin. So I just don t know what we can do

Somehow this sounded good to someone for some reason, which I cannot figure out. This year, going into the last weekend......heck, the last game.....#3 through #7 seed in the tournament was up for grabs. ULM could have been anywhere in that grouping. Had this plan been in place, a few teams would have been locked at no higher than 7.

Bottom line, the NCAA wants named teams in the tournament. Heck, they put Oklahoma in the tournament just because of one player. MTSU did exactly what they said do and they were left home. St Mary's was a top 25 school and they were left home. How many years did it take Gonzaga to consistently win and make runs in the tournament before they were actually taken seriously and given good seeds?

The ADs and coaches complain annually about how impossible it is to schedule an attractive OOC slate yet they oppose lessening the burden by 4 games by going to a 22-game round robin. What is the primary objection to the 22-game round robin?

We finally have some decent OCC teams coming to Ga Southern next year. Bradley George Mason and ETSU come to Statesboro. I m not sure the objection to 22 conference games is about travel costs or the reduction in opportunity to schedule non-conference games or both.

1. Be a two-team league with an at-large bid.

2. Have your best team win the conf championship and make the tournament and make a good showing.

We haven't done either in several years.

We did not too long ago...
