RE: Mens Basketball Offseason
Some kind of revised transfer rule is likely, I think. Not pure free agency, but one-time transfer without sitting out if grades are good, I’d guess.

But a team of four-year players seems dead.

Injury makes it unlikely DLR will transfer, which was real possibility.

Anyone else see where we just lost half our coaching staff?

Record-Courier

We lost two assistants: Akeem Miskdeen and Brock Erickson.

Honestly, I wasn't that familiar with either one. Both had opportunities to move up the coaching ladder which is the expected route for almost every assistant. Very few young assistants stay at the the same school more than a few years. Good luck to them! It's always good when rising coaches have KSU on their resume.

The other news is that the Flashes will play at Louisville on 12/23.

The basketball programs are certainly not a move up. I assume they are moving up a seat or two on the bench, otherwise why go? I have no idea what prompted their moves, but I don’t see it as a negative when assistants come and go. It’s pretty commonplace in every mid-major program.

Probably not ideal to lose two assistants when you're still looking to fill two scholarships and don't currently have any commitments for 2019. It will be interesting to see if Sullinger gets a promotion from DOBO. I would imagine that's unlikely as we passed up McKee in the same situation last year. I imagine some former players names will surface in the search. Greene and McKee are the first that come to mind. Of course we all have the pipe dream for Demetric Shaw on the sideline some day. If I had to bet though, I'd bet at least one of the spots goes to a JUCO head coach. When Steinberg left we lost that connection.

Often assistant hires help deliver recruits their connected to. It will be interesting to see if that happens as well. The recent example that comes to mind is Henry-Ala and Tyree Evans following Steinberg when he took the job here.

Looks like Patton is joining Cotton in leaving Akron. They've got some nice looking players coming in, but you hate to lose freshman that stick in the rotation all year.

Also, I came across and interesting article from back in November about Kent and Buffalo offering Joe Jones, a 6'10" post playing at a high profile prep school in Canada. He's the younger brother of Greg Oden. He's still unsigned and, according to the interwebs, our offer is still open to him. Seems like most of our recent offers have been to wings so not sure we're still looking for a big, but he'd be an interesting one. If I had to guess, I'd guess we bring in a wing that can play right away and a transfer with upside to redshirt.

Akron got commitments from 2 JUCO wing's today. One of them, Jeremy Roscoe, we offered a few weeks ago. He has three years remaining. Looks like they might be trying to emulate Buffalo's style of playing a lot of versatile interchangeable wings and few true post players. By my count they have 1 scholarship left to give and only 4 post players one of which is 6'8" 190.

Roscoe seems like he'll be a solid MAC player. There are a couple other wings we offered recently that I liked better than him though.

Quote: Kent State men's basketball head coach Rob Senderoff has announced the hiring on Dante Jackson as an assistant coach.

Jackson comes to Kent State from Robert Morris, where he spent a season as an assistant coach on Andy Toole's staff. He had previously served as an assistant coach at Air Force and Northern Kentucky, as well as a graduate assistant at Ohio and his alma mater, Xavier.

Jackson looks like a good hire by Senderoff, but what do I know (knows the state of Ohio & the MAC, has been at successful programs). Not sure if Miskdeen & Erickson were good teachers, recruiters, or coaches? Senderoff & Haut have been together for a while and I think Julian Sullinger is getting good experience as the DBO and he has great ties to the greater Columbus area.

Looks like Antonio Williams a 6'0" Juco gaurd from Indian Hills committed to Kent today. His Juco stats look solid. 14.6 ppg, 4.8 rpb, 4.7 apg. Fg% of 51 is real good. 3pt% of 29 is not so great and ft% of 66.7% could be better. Seems like a solid player. The height is a bit concerning though. With him and Ali joining Walker and Avery, we'll have 4 jr or Sr guards at 6'1" or shorter. Not ideal especially considering perimeter length seemed to both us last year... But hey, welcome Antonio and we all hope the best.

Some pretty nice throw down in the breif highlight I watched though. So he might play bigger than 6'0".

Minutes per game
8.4 all games
15.8 conference

Great. He's another short guard, he didn't play major minutes, he's not a 3-point shooter, and he can't hit 70% from the line.

Something tells me these stats are off. Or we're getting a point-per-minute scorer who shoots over 50% from the floor, which is something we could really use.

Ignore the minutes on njcaa. They're always off. I believe the actual stats on that site are legit though. They're quoted regularly in articles at least. I'm worried about our perimeter size, but I don't doubt that this guy can play. He was the second leading scorer, leading assister, and tied for 3rd leading rebounder on a team that was a #1 seed in the njcaa tournament.

Also, interesting that he appears to be a slasher so he'll likely try to replace some of what we lost in Zabo as our main penatrator. Coincidentally Zabo also came from Indian Hills and Williams' numbers are much better than Zabo's were there.

Here's his highlights from his freshman year. He definitely plays bigger than 6'0". Probably the most dunks I've seen in a guy that's size's highlight film and a few of those were legit posters. https://youtu.be/F05DpW8kKtU

Looks good to me. Very athletic, more so than Szabo. My only question is will he play defense?

I hope he is a PG because another 6'0 wing is cause for concern.

Well, much has been made on another thread about how small the football team is. maybe the plan in all sports is now "small ball".

Hey it works in gymnastics. Maybe it’s a new trend.
