Under 4, 12 point lead for umbc. Virginia needs a miracle to avoid being the first ever 1 to fall to a 16

Virginia falls to America East winner UMBC for the first 16/1 upset. Frst win ever in the tournament fr UMBC. Ironic that's Virginia is the team to end this run.they will forever live with being the top ranked team and losing to chaminade and now the first too seed (and overall #1) to fall to a 16 seed

UVA coach actually seems like a good guy. Wish it would’ve happened to more deserving scum bags. I’ve grown to dislike most top coaches including coach k who I used to really like. My impression is they’re all breaking every ncaa rule to get one and done kids who don’t care.

In hindsight uva doesn’t score much so they’re ripe for picking from a hot team.

RE: NCAA Tournament discussion
They scored more than years past (though their best scorer was hurt). But they played the best defense of anyone all year. Their defense for the first time didn't travel. It's still mind boggling. Virginia is efficient on offense and uses good ball movement to find good shots. Last night they weren't moving the ball not hitting anything when they did shoot. It was a bizarre game by them, but that's how upsets happen. Gotta bring it every night. I like Bennett too and he did a good job in game last night keeping calm while everything was falling apart.

And to think if Wichita State didn't change conferences Loyola Chicago probably doesn't even make the tournament and are now sweet sixteen bound

Wow. Unc gets smoked. Auburn getting smoked. Nevada comes back from down 22 in the second half to defeat Cincy after coming from 14 down against Shaka's Texas squad in round 1

Another top seed down. Xavier up 7 with 5:30 left loses. Fsu ends in an 18-4 run. Strange no call at the end as the fsu players rushed the court before time ran out. No technical given and the game ended. In a 5 point game a technical there would have given them a chance with maybe a second left.

There only appears to be one true Cinderella left in the 16 and that's Loyola, only based on their conference. But they still have a top 20 RPI. Loyola advancing as an 11 is a big deal...Syracuse advancing as an 11 is not. Not that I watched many games in the first two rounds, but there's no real reason to pay attention anymore. Fortunately, baseball season starts in a few days.

Please remember to thank the great Jim Boeheim for continuing his quest of giving the selection committee cover for selecting sub .500 power conference squads. Really looking forward to the Calipari, Huggy, Coach K/Boeheim Final Four. Go whoever comes out of the West!

I will respectfully disagree. It has been a lot of fun games going on, regardless of conference affiliation. Also Nevada is still alive despite now playing Loyola (Chicago). If you havent been able to enjoy this tournament, I am not sure it will ever be enjoyable.

I haven't really had time to enjoy it, as I'd much rather head to the DAC and watch WNIT games than sit at home and watch Syracuse/Michigan State. I'm sad that I missed the UMBC game, but sleep took priority. The system and the formula to who gets in and who doesn't makes me bitter. It makes me sick that they're giving bids to 10th place teams that finish 8-10 in their conference over 25 win teams from smaller conferences. The media tends to shove this tournament down the throats of sports fans, but I've just decided that I'll continue to follow and root for Drexel and some other mid-majors, but for the most part, ignore it.

RE: NCAA Tournament discussion
Nobody is saying to ignore the WNIT, because we all know supporting them is important. With games going on all day long, it is obviously just lack of interest. That is fine. Nobody is disagreeing that the selection criteria is badly skewed against mid majors. It has still be some fun basketball to watch if you are a basketball fan.

The breakdown of the sweet sixteen is:
ACC- 4 (of 9)
Big 12- 4 (of 7)
SEC- 2 (of 8)
Big 10- 2 (of 4)
Big East- 1 (of 6)
MWC- 1 (of 2)
WCC- 1 (of 2)
MVC- 1 (of 1)

More upsets. Half of the elite eight is set with the seeds of 9, 11, 9 and 3. Loyola (Illinois) is still alive after defeating Nevada last night. They have won their 3 games by 4 total points. Win and survive!

Villanova is in the championship game tonight and the vibe in Philadelphia is that most people could care less. This is a city where pro sports rule over college sports. Fans are much more interested in ripping on Gabe Kapler for taking Nola out of the game early, or whether or not the Eagles will trade Foles, or can the Sixers win a playoff series without Embid. If Nova wins tonight, there will be parade, and thousands will show up. But it will be nothing compared to the millions that showed up for the Eagles Super Bowl Parade.

RE: NCAA Tournament discussion
Loyola Chi had their chance. They crumbled on themselves once Michigan started making some shots. Too many silly passes and unforced errors to keep the lead and win the game. Villanova is just playing lights out right now. Even if one of the best 3 point defense in Michigan hold Villanova to poor shooting, I just dont know Michigan truly has enough on offense to offset Villanova's defense. I think if Nova shots poorly it will be a very close game, maybe even a Michigan win, but if Villanova keeps hitting their shots at over 40% from 3, I think Michigan is in for a long night, just like Kansas (and everyone else this tournament so far who have all lost by double digits)

Even here there's no mention of the Flyers! Even though they're about to enter the playoffs with an unsettled goaltending situation, shaky defense, and a coach under scrutiny. I guess that's not as notable because it's business as usual for them.

Congrats to Villanova for beating Michigan soundly last night. Started off slow and then woke up and buried Michigan. 2 titles in 3 years is awfully impressive.
