Coaching Carousel
Kevin Stallings of Pitt was fired today after an 0-19 ACC record this season. Read that Earl Grant could possibly be a candidate. I know he is a Charleston native, but will be interesting to see how he handles some bigger job opportunities.
With the high probability of more P5 jobs coming open in the next couple of weeks, I felt that a thread to keep up with it all made sense.

RE: Coaching Carousel
I'm glad it's not something we're worried about this year. Off season continuity should help us a bit the next couple years.

UCONN and UGA jobs just came open. Earl Grant should get a good look by UGA.

NC Central won the MEAC tournament today. That is 3 times in the last 5 years for Levelle Mouton. Talk about consistency. He deserves a shot at a solid mid major program.

Former UNCW Assistant Rodney Terry has taken the job at UTEP. He's built a solid program at Fresno State with 3 20+ win season. Wainwright as been his Associate Head Coach the past 5 seasons, I would imagine he follows him there.

Elon should be on the hunt for a coach soon, or at least they should be. Not sure they're willing to pony up a buyout even for one year though.

is UTEP really that much of a step up from Fresno?

From afar, it doesn't seem like it, but I don't know either program well enough to say for sure.

If I'm not mistaken, Rodney has Texas roots, so perhaps its more about geographic location

He does. He left Wainwright to join Barnes at UT. While here, he recruited Anthony Terrell from Texas as well. I don't recall where Ed Williams was from. I know he was a transfer, but I think he was recruited by Terry too.

Tubby Smith is close to returning to his Alma Mater, High Point. It will be interesting to see what he can do there. I can't remember them being any good. It could definitely have an effect on us on the recruiting trail, as he will probably go after the some of the same players as McGrath.

I think Mitch Laue was from Texas as was Anthony Terrell. We had a veritable pipeline from Texas with Wainwright and Terry.

Rodney Terry was the Chuck Norris of the CAA.

Seems like he also made the top of the list of best dressed assistant coaches.

Pittsburgh expected to hire Duke assistant Jeff Capel, source told ESPN. Look for Duke to not bring as many "one and dones" this next recruiting cycle now that Capel is gone. I'd expect Coach K to go back to his old model with his best recruiter heading to Pitt.

Pretty sure Coach K adopted the One-and-Done philosophy with or without Jeff Capel. Building NBA relationships thru the Olympic team and going the one-and-done route so often of late has kind of made that a point-of-no-return for Coach K, no?

I'm sure that had something to do with it... The Capel return to Duke and the One and Done Duke teams match up pretty evenly, and Capel was his best recruiter. I'm sure Duke will still be in the running for the One and Dones... Even though I would like to see Coach K go in another direction. Just a thought of mine.

It's an interesting move for Capel, if it happens. Everyone assumed Capel would slide into the first seat when K retired. Next year's class is full of OAD players and K is already 71. I don't there is any turning back for him now. I don't see K being the HC in 5 years.
