I'm one who thinks Penny would kill it at Memphis, at least in recruiting. He would definitely keep that #1 recruit in the '19 class away from Kentucky. College basketball is the most corrupt sport on the planet and has been forever, so I don't see how they will be instantly on probation like some on here are assuming. It may not work out but I don't blame Memphis one bit for trying. If he does well it would be good for the league as well. They are going nowhere fast with Tubby.

I'd think a lot of these kids coming from single mother households will like sending their kids to a woman coach. Obviously her staff is going to be male so they'll have male role models as well. I hope she does well.

Why would you think that? That would be completely different than anything those kids likely experienced growing up on the grade school, middle school, high school and AAU levels.

IDK man. You want to audition a dude that hasn't ever been a D-1 coach? Be careful what you wish for. Memphis hasn't really been the same since Brian Kelly, er, John Calipari left. Pastner had a few good years but didn't impress in the NCAAT. In four tries he went 2-4 and never advanced to the second weekend. I do understand the comparison of Tubby to our prior Flubby in terms of energy, pay and age though. Interesting to think how these rumors will impact Memphis in the American tourney. I can see the team tanking if the perception is Tubby is on the outs but I can also see a rally around the troops scenario and making a run. What a cluster!

As far as UC is concerned, Memphis hiring Penny would be great for the conference. If he brought along Larry Brown, Jalen Rose, James Wiseman, and the two younger Lawsons the buzz surrounding that program would be unreal, and this would bring buzz to the AAC. Penny and Co. vs UC would be a huge ratings draw. We need that kind of buzz in this league. I would love to see this happen.

Looks like Pitt is going to fire Kevin Stallings with cause today. I read yesterday they offered him a negotiated amount of his $9.4M buyout which he rejected. I imagine a lawsuit will follow shortly after his termination.

BREAKING: Pitt AD Heather Lyke, Kevin Stallings and attorneys from both sides will meet tomorrow morning to discuss the terms of Stallings departure. Sources says it could get messy, including the possibility that Stallings is fired with cause

Such a bad hire.

Make them spend some of that P5 money. Sounds like they are trying to figure out how to get away with not honoring his contract.

That is an all time bad hire. They should have given Dixon a 10 year contract before he got antsy. Now they are going to try and get Dan Hurley but I expect he will have better options.

Agreed.

Does anyone remember when his name was being rumored for the UC gig in 2006? We'd be USF North right now.

I really don't think Dixon was working out there. The last several years he was crap.

Yeah, once they moved to the ACC he was mediocre.

Winning an average of 22 games a year in the ACC? He made the NCAA 2/3 years. Not bad considering that's the 9/10 best job in the ACC.

Would love for UC to make another run @ Marcus Carr if he decides to leave Pitt. UC finished 2nd for him and he went on to average 10 and 4 as a true freshman in the ACC.

One of the guys from one shining pod, Titus, thinks that thad should take the gig. If thad goes for the Pitt gig, that would be troublesome for Mick. thad may not have been much of a game coach, but he can recruit. i realize Mick has a specific philosophy about recruiting but the last thing he needs is another big name in the neighborhood to compete against.
