RE: 2018 CAA Women's Basketball Tournament
I was comparing the attendance from yesterday's quarterfinals to previous years, and it appears that Drexel did quite well. I'm sure that the CAA is pleased. It also helped that we were able to get some students out to the game yesterday. The CAA always does a one admission quarterfinals day for the WBB Tournament. Here's how yesterday compared to previous years

2018 - DAC - 2,053
2017 - JMU - 2,497
2016 - Show Place - 1,147
2015 - Show Place - 1,854
2014 - Show Place - 1,772
2013 - Show Place - 2,396 (last Della Donne season)

Delaware was slow yesterday so we need to come at them early and often. The other semi should be a dandy. My gut says cheer for Elon with our history against jmu, but my head think Elon is still the best team/team we would have the hardest time defeating

Right now, all I care about is hoping that Drexel can get by a good Delaware team that played some really tough defense yesterday. Yes, Drexel did beat them handily both times this year, but like they say in the financial world, "past performance does not necessarily indicate future results". If Drexel is fortunate enough to make it to the championship game, it's going to be really hard to determine who is the easier matchup for Drexel, since both will be really tough. I'll probably be pulling for Elon, since JMU will be pulling in the larger crowed, including the rather obnoxious Neumann Goretti folks who will be there to root on Smalls.

Didn't notice if the Mayor was in attendance yesterday....

Just arrived at the Airbnb in town. Will probably show up for the 4th quarter of Drexel/Del. Ready to root for dukes. You guys really gonna root for Elon just to balance out the crowd?

I am torn on who to root for. I think Elon is better, especially late, but we have a terrible track record against JMU. I am with hiroshima and I am siding on it can be whoever as long as you play at least 4 overtimes where all of the starters log heavy minutes before fouling out in the final overtime.

POY out for Delaware with fouls and we go on a run. under 5 timeout, 20-17 Delaware. We've cooled off and now shooting 18.5%. Delaware on a four and a half minute drought without their POY

24-20 Drexel at half. Delaware scored 1 point in the 2Q, good defense but some easy shots missed by Delaware. We are still shooting worse than them slightly (24% to 26%) but we are giving ourselves a lot of opportunities with 11 offensive rebounds. We are plus 9 on the boards

Geez just saw the final without seeing the second half. Glad we escaped. Shooting so poorly again won't get it done. Elon is scary and dismantling jmu

RE: 2018 CAA Women's Basketball Tournament
The results of today were kind of what we expected, but I think we saw the complete opposite of how each game actually went.

I knew that Delaware would not be an easy game. For Drexel it comes down to strong defense, playing within themselves, holding onto the basketball, and making shots when they have the opportunities. Drexel did not make their shots today and had to grind it out. Credit to Delaware as they really stepped up their defense for these two games and really made it tough for Drexel.

But Drexel's had their backs against the wall so many times this year. They were down late against Niagara, W&M, JMU, Elon, and now Delaware, and came out with improbable wins in all of these games.

Really hoping that Sara Woods is OK. I haven't heard anything yet. Drexel does have a lot of depth and like the Eagles, have a "next 'women' up mentality", but her experience is needed. Not having her on the court could be difference maker.

I was thinking about how awful it would have been to see Delaware playing in the championship game on our home court after they just beat us. It would have been the equivalent of what happened to the Vikings, having to watch the Eagles play in the Super Bowl on their field after the Eagles beat them in the semi-finals.

Even though Elon is going to be a really tough opponent for Drexel tomorrow, I really enjoyed the 2nd game tonight and watching JMU take that beatdown. I was sitting right across the aisle from the JMU fans and really took enjoyment in their expressions. I even kicked a JMU fan out of my reserved seat when I got to the game late. Keeping with the theme of NFL analogies, JMU has become the Patriots of CAA WB. You could tell by reading their posts that 5 championships in 8 years isn't enough, and they made the trip to Philly almost expecting a championship. The pictures and the expressions on the faces of the JMU fans behind their bench were priceless. If any JMU fans are offended by my post here, just accept that it comes with the territory of rooting for a dynasty. If any of my teams are ever have this much success, I'd expect nothing less from my opponent's fans as well.

Finally, I'm excited about tomorrow, and I got the championship matchup I was hoping for. I think that the DAC will be close to sold out, and it will be an electric atmosphere. Drexel's going to have a really tough game, and I'm actually not expecting a victory. But this team is relentless and you can't count them out.

Both Drexel and Elon deserve to be in the NCAA Tournament. They are better than many of these middle range power 5 teams that will get in. I know that Dan has brought out all of the stats explaining why that won't happen, and he's probably right. But I still say that the system is rigged against mid majors and the NCAA selections are a farce.

RE: 2018 CAA Women's Basketball Tournament
I know we didn't "expect" a championship in my group; seems like you're projecting. I knew Elon had the ability, but hadn't seen them put it all together this year until the dismantling last night.

A couple thoughts:
I thought it was classless and inappropriate for the music operator to play Tom Petty when the Delaware player fouled-out. Moments later a Drexel player fouled out and they did not give the same treatment. Is the league OK with that kind of uneven approach from game admin at its tournament? One would think if they went to all that trouble to cover logos & make it a "neutral" court, that they would also train game staff in what is appropriate.

From the what I saw, UD/DU game had more questionable officiating. The JMU/Elon crew seemed pretty solid. Very few complaints for our game.

Timer, I suspect the arena staff's decision to try to micro-manage GA seating might have contributed to folks sitting in the wrong spots. We bought Section 3 tickets (which were for both games, one ticket/one session), but the staff tried to make me sit over in the GA on the other side. He didn't even understand that the tickets were for a session, not each game. It was frustrating to be hassled as I went to take my seat by a guy who had no clue. He literally said, "I'm just looking for any purple" to explain why he stopped us. *facepalm*

Elon is playing like they're on a mission.

Good luck in the championship!

Hyper just curious, how did your operators handle music etc when jmu hosted in the past? (I'd be lying if I said I remember music and the past operator from 2009). I do agree the pa announcers and everything should be neutral if it's not truly being hosted

JMU administrators are as "by the book" as they come. I say that not loving their approach! But yeah, no taunting foul-out music for our rivals happened. Definitely.

I'm guessing that Sara Woods won't be playing today. It will be interesting to see who DD puts in the staring lineup. Metzel maybe? She probably has the biggest body on the team to counteract Elon's size. Heading down there now. GO DRAGONS!

End of 1Q Elon leads 18-9

Elon shooting 8-10 and Drexel is 4-20. We did create 6 Elon turnovers and had 6 offensive boards
