RE: 2018 CAA Women's Basketball Tournament
It wasn't the result that we had hoped for, but realistically it was probably the result that was expected. The story of the game was that you can't win when you can't shoot. This team wasn't a very good shooting team to being with, shooting just 40% for the season. Their success was based on strong defense, playing within the system, limiting their opponents possessions, and generating just enough offense off of their defense to put teams away. Fatigue plays a major role in poor shooting. After putting away UNCW on Friday, they had their 2 of their 3 worst shooting games of the season at the worst time. They were very lucky and fortunate to sneak past Delaware, but there was no way that they could get past a bigger and stronger Elon team unless they could make shots, which didn't happen. It also didn't help that Woods got hurt. Sara was one of the team's better shooters and made so many huge jump shots throughout the season. Her signature mid-range jumper was sorely missed today. Her injury was very unfortunate but this team made it through the season almost unaffected by injuries which was remarkable.

It's almost as if this Drexel team was built to beat up on weaker opponents, and sneak past a few good ones too, which they did. But they probably weren't built to win 3 games in 3 days, even on their home court. This was supposed to be a transitional year, as their 4th place preseason pick would suggest and they exceeded expectations.

Great atmosphere at the DAC today that was just a few short of a sellout. They needed another great student turnout and they got it. They really fed off the electricity of the crowd in the 4th quarter as they fought their way back into the game. Credit Elon though for making the big shots when they needed to, to put the game away.

After the game, Drexel's RPI fell to 48, while Elon's jumped to 31. So it's a shame that 26 wins isn't enough to get them an at-large bid. Now we wait until late Monday night for the WNIT bracket to come out. JMU will be joining them, and Delaware has a chance to make it as well. The bracket is kind of random. Sometimes you get lucky like Drexel did in 2013. Hopefully they can get some early mid-major opponents. If they can regroup from today's loss, they have a shot to get a couple more wins to add on to a great season.

i don't really have anything to add jb. pretty much spot on about the game. we got ourselves into the habit lately of getting behind and having to scramble back. this wasn't towson or even delaware. #5 made us pay early and they hit enough shots to finally put us away.

i wanted us to win for coach dillon. it's a crime that her program doesn't get to be the stars. everybody was in love with odu when i first came to drexel. then it was jmu. then it was delaware with edd. now it seems to be elon. what she's done with this program is nothing short of spectacular. i'm sure enough of the right people recognize it.

great as her system is from the style of play to her recruiting...there have been two achilles heels over the years...

1. three point shooting. sometimes we rely on it a little too much. you live and die by it.

2. we don't quite have the big/physical players. i love the type of players we bring through the program...but aside from rare exceptions like wootton who was actually a later bloomer...we haven't brought in the type of size combined with skill that the top programs are getting. maybe woods could've brought some of that today. she wouldn't have been a dominating force inside though and we've pretty consistently lacked this over the years.

I posed this on the JMU board, but the NCAA for the womens tournament announced the the last 8 teams fighting for 4 spots. They are open about it, as opposed to the mens side. We are definitely NIT bound. SOS needs to improve if you want a chance.

Final 8 teams vying for 4 spots into the NCAA were announced as: Buffalo(RPI 22, SOS 88), Creighton(RPI 49, SOS 27), Minnesota(RPI 41,SOS 82), Oklahoma(RPI 35, SOS 2), Purdue (RPI 62, SOS 26), Rutgers(RPI 40, SOS 16), USC(RPI 52, SOS 47), WVU(RPI 64, SOS 57)

For Reference Drexel(RPI 51, SOS 127), JMU(RPI 68, SOS 89)

Creme has the next 4 out as Michigan St(RPI 65, SOS 30), Indiana (RPI 54, SOS 11), VT(RPI 66, SOS 35), UCF(RPI 46, SOS 59)

SOS drives everything it appears, which is fine. It is hard to get an at large as a mid in the women's game

You just proved how much of a scam it is by focusing so much on SOS. The NCAA is going to do whatever it takes to get more power teams into the field, so of course they will use SOS as a barrier since power teams will always have a higher SOS based on their overall schedule. I never watch the WNCAAT and have had less and less interest in the men's tournament year after year. It's a total JOKE.

The NIT is a scam too. Penn State over Northeastern....Really?

For the WNIT....
Drexel is listed as an AQ on the WNIT website, but no power conference teams will be listed as AQ's until 8:00 tonight. Last year, the Pac 12's AQ had a losing record since every team in the P12 with a winning record got an NCAA bid.

Yes by losing our conference tournament we were guaranteed a bid as all conference are guaranteed a single bid. However, with our high rpi it was a long shot for an at large still. Fact of the matter is, it may be a joke, but we didnt win enough quality games. WVU smoked us and is on the wrong side of the bubble after stumbling through their conference. Keep in mind WVU ran through that tournament with ease which included us and VT. The disparity between mids and majors is still alarming in the womens game. Cant fault them for putting the majors in over good mids due to the general talent level. That will only change when mids actually start winning games. It is easier to schedule good or middling teams in the womens game, you just have to be able to win some.

RE: 2018 CAA Women's Basketball Tournament
Many thanks to the staff and Drexel students who were very helpful and nice to us tourists last weekend. Several times we had the deer in headlights look when trying to find something, and several people stopped and asked if they could help us or were very willing to answer questions and point us in the right direction. Got some great suggestions on places to eat in the area from some of the ushers as well.

But I have to ask......what is with the Drexel dance team member who looked like she was auditioning for a porn movie all weekend? I noticed it....several of my friends noticed it....and the high school girl's basketball team sitting in front of us on Saturday noticed it. I would not think that is the image the school wants to project.

See you all next year! Good luck in the WNIT.

Well? How'd she do with her audition? Are you going to hire her?

Since I am probably old enough to be her grandmother......no interest there.

i didn't notice it. what was going on? that's a pretty inappropriate thing to accuse somebody of without good reason to do it.

She was playing to either someone sitting at the media table or to the camera....excessive hip thrusts, shaking her butt, swishing her hair, facial expressions, pushing her chest out excessively. Definitely different and more provocative body language from the rest of the team members.

Like I said, I was not the only person who noticed it (not all of whom are JMU fans so no bias intended). One of the high school girls sitting in front of me on Saturday turned to the girl sitting next to her and said "What club is she at today? Looks like she is looking for her pole to dance on." So.....I am not making this up.

Just not old enough to keep your mouth shut when you don't have anything nice to say. Sad!

I'll play one more time.

I have had plenty of nice things to say on this board over the years for everything from the video quality when watching away games to the talent of Coach Dillon to my appreciation for many people we encountered in our visit to Philadelphia last weekend for the tournament.

I am certainly welcome to my opinion as are you....I made my observations and I am sticking to it.
