Height is better than no height, but they will still have a problem handling the size and strength of those beefy guards.
Go for skill first, size second. I'm a firm believer that we can find another Talley, or someone like William and Mary's David Cohn. Smaller framed guys that flat out get it done. Sure, if we're looking for a defensive rock fight with CoC, NU, or Towson go get the beef or two... but it is possible to win championships (multiple) with smaller players. We've proven that a time or two.

It was proven once, when we used that speed to press and were destroyed in half court defense.

Yes we were. I remember all of us constantly bemoaning our inability to defend the half court.

I'm all about those kinds of players, but you MUST press if you have guards that small. Otherwise you are waiting at half court to play half court defense without the players to do it.

I don't disagree with you my man. Not at all. Give it time, if we start bringing in bigger guards and stick to the m2m, we have a fighting shot. If we stay small and lean, we can hope for a Wes Miller-ish realization.

Good for the program to get a P5 in here. With Elmore back and Cylla elligable, we should be able to shore up the inside a bunch. Many combinations with next year's team. Doesn't really matter who the starters are. We'll be much deeper and hopefully much better.

That's a great thing. Sucks if that schedule plays out though, that we couldn't get them in Trask while we have Cacok. I imagine that's for good reason on Carolina's end.
of course it is. There is history here. They refused to play us while Blizzard was here, year he left, we played them in MB.
One difference. This was coaches 1st year. No surprise Heels didn't play us this year. Next year at Carolina, following year at Trask. I just don't see anything out of the ordinary.

Height is better than no height, but they will still have a problem handling the size and strength of those beefy guards.
There are ways to put on weight but you can’t just magically grow in height.

I'm pretty confident Cacok grew an inch since his freshman year. Though that might just be his imposing presence on the court making me THINK that was the case.

Definitely not unheard of. Jay Huff (UVA) has grown about 3" since being there.

You CAN grow in height at that age, but it’s nothing you can personally do to make that certainly happen.

Brian Rowsom grew 3" after we recruited him. From 6' 6" to 6' 9".

Kind of off-topic, but speaking about the 2018-2019 season, what teams would y'all want UNCW play against in the non-conference? Any predictions about any uprising mid-majors coming to Trask and do y'all think we will go play at a P5 school (like LSU this past season)?

We play UNC the next two years, home and home. There's confusion about which year we host. I've heard it both ways.

Almost always, the bigger money program hosts the first game. It would also make sense that they'd want to avoid Cacok.

I would imagine they could care less if they play Cacok at home or away. I like Carolina and UNCW and really want to see UNCW do well. I have thought a lot about how much better this past season would have been if Bass had hired Keatts' top assistant instead of McGrath. I am totally convinced of that simply because we wouldn't have lost the recruits and transfers. What I am not sure of is which decision would play out better in 4-5 years. Many here seem to have great faith in McGrath being the guy long term. I wish I shared that optimism.

That’s a lot of speculation to say the least.

It could have worked out very well, or we could have been on here now questioning why we pulled another Benny Moss except even younger.
