Just move Drexel's entire campus to Nowheresville, Pennsylvania! Easy fix.

i guess i think of the caa tournament as a place to showcase your product to the league. could you ever imagine vcu or gmu showing up without the peppas or green machine?

it would be a reward of sorts for the band too. they play a huge role in creating a good atmosphere...which will bring people back to games.

I agree but it would be more disrespect to not have them available for senior day for the women. That only works for a valid excuse for Saturday. They should have been there Sunday, even for a noon tip

Bully for Bucknell for having an athletic department that actually sees the benefit of having a good basketball program so that they can dominate the PL. Why are they being brought up again? And why are we still talking about Temple's stupid, waste of money football stadium?

I don't remember his exact words, but it came off to me like the words from someone who felt as if intercollegiate athletics were a nice thing to have rather than having a serious vision of intercollege athletic success. He viewed Temple's decision to go for it as preposterous, which indicated to me that everything done at Drexel would be with the mindset of keeping everything safe, status quo, etc. Anything more than that would be reckless. I look at the basketball program in all facets and see that is undeniably a fact with how things are run.

He's a fine AD to have if you're at a school like NYU, but I see his mindset as completely defeatist at a D-I school, even if you aren't in a power conference. Why bother if you aren't going to try to be successful?

it would be interesting if a current or recent dac pack alum was lurking out there to comment. it always seemed to be passed from one class to the next. looking around the dac this year is like visiting a dac pack museum with reps from those classes scattered around. when did that end? what changed?

spiker makes more of an effort than bruiser ever did by bringing them on the court before the game. it's a great tradition.

Who cares if they weren't there? They can't be at two places at one time. The administration decided that they should be at the WBB home game for senior day. They absolutely can be, if athletics wills it. I gave several options how both games could have all the spirit groups represented.

Women's games have historically not had as many bands travel, because their respective athletic departments did not prioritize it. It would be nice to see that change as well.

Both can be true you know. Our AD does have a defeatist attitude, and big time college football is uniquely wasteful among college sports thanks to the shear quantity of money and other resources required.

Unless you are Stanford, an Ivy, etc., very few schools sell themselves. Football is worth it because it is a way you can sell your university to prospective students, donors, sponsors, etc. We're not getting a $30M deal from Under Armour without a football program.

We're winning right now, and our program is nowhere near its peak. Our attendance is up when attendance is down in college football. That's only going to continue to grow as we invest in our program and continue to win.

Completely agree. A few friends from NJ, attended Tennessee and South Carolina due to the football exposure. Both still struggle to read or write above a 5th grade level.

Some of the best prospective students select a university based on the football program.

Your cynicism gets on my nerves a lot, but this post made me laugh.

I guess I see how southern schools sell their souls for football. We saw what it did for ODU. In order to get a football program that plays in top notch bowl games like the Bahamas Bowl, they basically ended up destroying their once proud men's and women's basketball programs.

Temple seemed to be very successful with their basketball first mentality while playing in a once great Atlantic 10. Now they're playing in a very strange football first conference with mismatched teams all over the country. It's better than a mid-major conference like the CAA, but more like a red-headed stepchild of the Power 5.

I don't see what Temple still has to gain in football. They're not in the Power 5, and they play in a city where the football team that plays 4 hours away has more fans. Why throw away $135 million on a playground that's not going to make a difference?

RE: Always A Dragon - Empty Seats at the DAC
We've had ACC officials visit campus to vet our potential. Our goal is for Team Chaos to win, and to get into the remaining ACC down the line. Using Penn State as an example for why we shouldn't even try is laughable. We'd be in a much better spot right now had our previous administrations not funneled football money into basketball instead of investing in football.

There is zero reason we cannot be successful at both football and basketball.

Personally I think temple should have ended football after the year they beat psu and should have beat nd. That’s their ceiling if not through it by a few floors. I went to independence mall a few weeks ago and had visions of what gameday looked like. Must have been awesome.

I root for temple. Don’t get me wrong. I just have trouble imagining them in the acc. It all depends on how much the big conferences value the philly tv market. Big 10 added Maryland and Rutgers for dc/nyc markets. Philly has always been a cast off. Even Nova basketball was a cast off when everybody bailed from the big east.

Rutgers is in the B1G and was in as bad a place than us, if not worse. There is no reason they can do it and we can't.

I've been to Maryland to see Temple play there. They have no better fan support than we have. Our student section blows theirs away.

says a lot about the state of drexel basketball that a thread about the state of drexel basketball has turned into a debate about temple football.

Oh good, now you are comparing yourself to Maryland, who isn't a football school as your barometer.

I would move the posts to a separate thread, but I'm still a novice at this moderator thing. It's a good discussion so I'll just let it be.

You're putting words in my mouth, because I never said that. Georgia Tech, Washington, and Minnesota are probably the best comparisons from P5 conferences. Outside of that, San Diego State and Cincy are the programs we're most comparable to. UC recently finished an $86M renovation of Nippert Stadium, which is exactly what we need at Temple.

I wasnt talking about facilities. Maryland has extremely nice ones, I am talking about comparing fan support that you alluded to.
