This is the second straight year the CAA only has one team heading into the postseason.

We had probably 3-4 teams worthy of CBI / CIT invites, I'm guessing that all the schools turned them down if invited.

Next season is all about getting a marquee OOC win. The CAA didn't have one this season.

Absolutely. Last year, Northeastern won AT Michigan State, UNCW won vs ETSU (SoConn champions), Charleston won vs Davidson (maybe marquee?), and UNCW won AT St. Bonaventure. This year, I don't necessarily think it was winning against good schools (remember, Drexel won against Houston this year), the CAA had some losses to some pretty bad schools

The last two years our regular season champ(NIT auto bid) also won the tournament(NCAA auto bid). Splitting those two is a huge advantage, and you'll find a lot of mid major conferences had that happen this year. Also, NU doesn't have the fan following the NIT likes to see for at large invites, and they were the only team beyond CofC that had the resume' for a possible invite.

I would disagree with that, since Drexel beat Houston. I think you meant the leagues best teams need to grab marquee wins.

UVM is closer to Northeastern than any CAA team is to Northeastern, but that would leave Hofstra without a travel partner, Hofstra partnered with Towson, or have Delaware and Drexel not be partners with each other with one with Hofstra and one with Towson.
Hofstra and Drexel would work as would Towson and Delaware.

Playing all these DII and DIII teams can't help. The CAA isn't fooling anybody by allowing teams to pad their records.

Yes agreed. Drexel's win was the league's best OOC win this season and I'd consider it a big one. But it's the bubble teams that need it most.

The CAA blows, guys. Not the AD's, coaches, or teams. The league office is useless.

Northeastern wins the honor of being the highest ranked team left out of the 2 official post season tournaments. The CAA is consistently a top 10 - 12 league. But honestly, that doesn't mean anything. The SoCon champion gets the same 13th seed we do.

This league sucks. And it’s not because the teams suck. It’s the conference leadership. SN08 is right here. They suck at promoting and pushing for the conference. Until someone with some backbone is in that chair we’re screwed.

I don't think the problem is lack of backbone, per se. It's just that they are (A) unimaginative, and (B) unwilling to rock any boats in a way that might advance their member school's interests at the expense of doing anything that might close future career doors for them.

No one wants P5 or NCAA officials to think of them as "the turd in the punchbowl" by doing sharp elbows advocacy for their schools, lest their advocacy harm their chances of getting the next, better, job for having done so.

Fair question. I think their putting personal interest before their members' interests is avarice rather than cowardice. I actually think that is more distasteful.

Sadly, the member schools have never seemed to demand much more.

I think serving self interest instead of fighting for the people it is your job to fight for... is absolutely a lack of backbone. That's darn near the exact definition of it in my book.

Also, I absolutely agree the member schools SHOULD demand more. I don't understand this acceptance of this garbage status quo we've come to see for the CAA in the last 6-8 years. We went from a Mid Major conference that was putting 2 schools in the tourney every year and sent TWO different Mids to the Final Four!!!! Judging based on success, we were the best Mid Major conference in the country, and now we're an absolute shell of that. It's like our conference leadership watched ODU, GM, and VCU walk off with their success and said, "Well crap, we're done. It's okay everyone, we're just gonna put one through from here on out and hope for the best." There was no real attempt to maintain the powerful mid conference we had become.

The sad thing is we did little to nothing to build with those final 4 runs. THAT was a perfect time to do so.

I'm assuming you mean the CAA should've built on the success of the final four runs and you're absolutely right. The conference had several opportunities to leverage that success into a TV deal that probably would've created a financial incentive for schools like VCU/GMU/ODU to stay. The fact that they left for greener pastures is a clear sign the conference leadership did nothing then and has continued to blunder the CAA to mediocrity (although I think we're still a decently strong conference watching the games).

No matter what, the posts here show that a majority of people agree that this league isn't sustainable and the schools need to expect more from the conference leadership.

I wouldn't agree that the league isn't sustainable. But, it is not any different than the Big South or Southern if our teams have no one advocating for them and we don't each schedule aggressively to try and improve the conference. Again, 30 OOC big games should be the minimum. Instead, we are all playing D2 teams now(the Tribe played 2 this year). Granted we also played Ohio St, TCU, UCF, ODU, Marshall and George Mason, but still. Those 2 games did nothing for us. No P5 wants to play us in Williamsburg, even VCU and Richmond won't. My guess is that the 4 ACC schools in NC don't want to come to Trask either. While we are frustrated with the A10, the Tribe at least got games with Dayton, Rhode Island and Mason in recent years. Davidson would seem to be another natural for UNCW.
