The final home games...
I'm not one to tell a university how to run an athletic department, but now would be the perfect time to offer a super cheap ticket package for these final two home games.
Attendance has stunk, and these are two important games if we hope to build momentum going into the C-USA tournament. Now more than ever, we desperately need some excitement inside Bartow...some boost to end the season on a good note.
Package up tickets to both games for $10 or $15 total, give local schools some free tickets, run some commercials on WJOX, be ready to give away all the swag in the storage closet, plan to open all the concession stands and pray the city turns out.
As a diehard, I'll be there (and I have been there). But it's been a VERY depressing scene for most of the season.
Just thinking out loud...

100% agree. Just get a casual fan into the arena, have a great time, and some of those will be lifelong fans. I'll admit.... the t-shirts on parachutes about 10 years ago is what hooked my kids when they were 3-4 years old. Now, they tower over me and are the biggest UAB fans I know. Because of them, we've purchased season tix since then.

Give every fan a box of Krispy Kremes with 11 doughnuts inside. Fumbles can take one from each as an excise tax.

Great idea... which means it probably won’t be done. Hope I’m wrong.

If you discount tickets, and it only moves the needle a little bit, then you lost money—not saying there's someone in the AD even thinking about that, but I don't see how some magical promotions are going to convince the casual fan to show up. At the end of the day, it's about the product on the floor.

Sometimes you have to take a step back to be able to take several steps forward.
Step back- lose a little money by discounting tickets.
Step forward - attract new fans by the discounted ticket prices who in turn will come back.

Bingo!
Yep.
1,000 tickets sold at $5 > 0 tickets sold at $20.
(Not to mention the potential concessions/merch sales)

But that’s not exactly how merchandising works.
There is a break even point, below which you lose money.
If you drop the price from $20 to $5, you may sell more tix.
However, you also have to consider that 1,000 who were going to pay $20 now only pay $5.
I’m not saying that dropping the price is a bad idea, but it’s not as simple as stated above

Absolutely agree. That’s why i said tickets you wouldn’t have sold otherwise. If you wait until the last minute, you probably aren’t losing many walk up sales based on our attendance this year.

RE: The final home games...
Something else to consider.
I've got friends working on an assignment in the UK. While planning ahead for my next visit, I looked up the closest Premiere or Championship league club, which happens to be Norwich City, and was going to order tickets.
Unless I pay a fee to join their fan club, I can't buy tickets for an upcoming match until 21 days before the game. If I'm in their fan club, I can buy tickets up to 25 days in advance. And at 23 days in advance, Season Ticket Holders can purchase more tickets if they choose. So even If I join, I can't buy tickets for the March 30 match until March 5th.
It irked me that I couldn't buy tickets that far in advance, until I reasoned it out. It keeps up the demand for less attractive matches, and drives up demand to join their Membership Club, and may even drive up Season Ticket sales. Norwich plays 3 times at home before the match I'll be in town for. If I want to go, I won't wait on a good game or sit on tickets for a match 6 weeks from now. And the Membership Club gets you a £2 discount per ticket, again promoting sales by "getting your money back" on the Membership fee.

Good news for you phil is Norwich should be a ticket you can get unless they have a big name opponent there!

Yeah, they are in 12th, but only 8 points out 6th and a playoff spot for a chance to move up to Premiere. On March 30th, the Canaries play Fulham, currently in 5th. That day is my birthday, so I'll get in somehow.
