The Tribe seems to score a lot on us though. Maybe a match up zone would be best. They will pick you apart if you don't cover up backdoors and step/close out. They're really good on offense. Our offense fell apart in the 2nd half and we stopped moving it.

Overall, our offense is good enough but the D needs to improve and has somewhat. I see some better things than earlier in the year, but it's not quite there. My hope is that they just keep getting better and continue it next year with some more bodies/and another quick defending guard and a rim protector to add to what we're gonna have.

We played good defense in the first half and held them to 38. It changed in the 2nd, coinciding with a lot of whistles. Not putting it all on the refs, because WM’s shooters showed up tonight (Pierce, Burchfield). They’re a good team and I think we have to mix in zone to beat them. If not, foul trouble trying to keep up with them. They’re fast and long. Cohn is an extremely crafty pg. it was nice to see Brown keep pace with him, but we needed Bryan in there for rebounds. Going even smaller and no zone hurt us, IMO.

It must really confuse him hearing you cheer for W&M in your Tribe gear.

Hahaha

Be gone with your pot stirring ‘ol boy. Lol

Funny side story you’d appreciate... I was yelling at Burchfield all night. It didn’t seem to help though, dude shoots lights out regardless. Anyways, my fellow Seahawk fan beside me says “What do you have against him? Did he do your family wrong?”

“Nah, just one of the older players still here that I remember from a few years ago.”

Him and Rowley have really progressed. Good players.

We need to play at a slower pace this year, and pound the ball in the post. When we start trying to get up and down the floor we get incredibly sloppy and start making stupid, forced passes. Then, we give up long rebounds and don't get back in transition defense. It's just a downward spiral when we play fast.

Knight absolutely cannot handle Cacok, yet in the 2nd. half we were jacking up threes and not even looking for Cacok. I thought our problem in the 2nd. half was rushed offense and too many 3's, not defense. Our defense only looked bad because we were shooting too quick and couldn't get back on defense, leaving wide open shots.

When we are taking our time on offense, the players are moving and we're getting Cacok touches, we're almost unstoppable. We're not going to beat many teams in a 3 point shooting contest. CACOK is our difference maker, use him.

Said the exact thing about playing better in a slower tempo game about a month ago. Our half court offense is actually really good. Cacok should touch the ball every offensive possession for the most part. That leads to open 3pt shots.

Our half court defense is ok. The only team in the CAA we couldn’t stop in the half court was Charleston.

We absolutely cannot guard W and M in halfcourt for an entire game. Disappointed they didn't mix in a zone that worked really well the first time.

Our defense struggled when William and Mary got out and pushed the tempo after our misses in the 2nd half.

Guys, I think it was a lot simpler than that. In the first half, The Tribe had unforced turnovers and Burchfield and Milon missed open shots. In the second half, much fewer turnovers and virtually no missed shots by Burchfield and Milon.

Agree that Cacok is a major force. Not sure anyone other than UNCW can hold him under a 20-10 stat line. Although, his 3rd foul(an iffy call at best) helped last night. At least against the Tribe, he appears to have improved his foul shooting as well.

BTW, super impressed with Fornes. He was great last night. Really if Talley had been close his normal self, you guys might have won. He was much better against us at Trask than last night. But, I still have tremendous respect for him as a four year player for the Seahawks. Just an off night I think for him. You guys have a good nucleus coming back next year.

RE: William and Mary Rnd 2 - 2/22/18
Thanks 91, but Jalen can't back away from his talent and he's too nice sometimes to understand that UNCW needs him to be a killer on both ends. Humility is a great attribute to have, but he has to step his game up and be focused when he's out there. He can't have spells when he's not looking to do his thing and that's not just scoring, but overall. I feel that he has talent, but needs to be engaged the whole time. That's just my take, but I have a pretty good read having been around it my whole life and now coaching my youngest son. Taylor is a guy that can be really good too. He's has great quicks and ability so I'm high on him-he can go. Yes, UNCW can be good going forward, but they will have to learn to play together the entire game on both ends. Hawks have a really good PG coming in that will get everybody shots, if he's the guy, so he may not be a Talley scoring wise, but will REALLY pass the ball. It's been a really frustrating year having so few players available, but hopefully it will change next year. Hawks will add length and depth next year so they will be better. Will they be back at the top? Let's see. Thanks for being a good poster after another defeat at the Tribe. We simply can't win there lately.

I hope that the Tribe can finally break though at some point, if it's not the Hawks. They've been good for a long time and if you keep getting there, you will get there. The defense is the only problem I see with the Tribe. If they get hot, they can dance because that offense is nice. I love the way they play offense and the shooting is unreal. BTW...I really like Nathan Knight because you can tell that he's a nice guy. I didn't like that T that he got the other night, he shouldn't have done that, but that doesn't take away from him being a good sport. He offered to help Cacok up the other night at Trask after they collided and didn't run the floor for offense by staying with him. That's good sportsmanship and I really respect that.
