from Canton Respository

Hope springs eternal. But it’s hard not to be impressed by this guy so far.

Plus, I’d take him in a fair fight against any of the other head coaches. 03-wink

Well he had a good recruiting class but the article you posted talks about him saying he will win recruiting NE Ohio kids and how he had all his coaches recruit within 2 hour car drive but only 3 or the 20 kids he signed is even from Ohio. Everybody else is from FL, SC, etc..

I also agree with him that recruits notice and like the mid-week ESPN games they can be showcased on. Andy Reid said he came across Kareem Hunt during breaks watching film and flipping on the only games on TV on Tues and Wednesdays... #MACtion. Its great for the conference despite some sore NIU fans about it.

Good comments.

Mid-week games aren't great for home team fans, unless they are in suites, etc., but they are good for players and until the NFL goes to Tuesdays and Wednesdays, MACtion is where it is at...

Coach Lewis was hired less than 45 days before the second LOI day. Most kids were locked up by that point. From my understanding what they did was drive to every high school in the area and introduce themselves to the coaches and future recruits. I have a feeling his first full recruiting class will be more Ohio heavy.

Yeah he probably would whip Jason Candle’s azz.
But in recruiting, I highly doubt it. 05-nono

Kent has a big hole to climb out of, but Coach Lewis seems very motivated and focused. Young guy looking to make his mark like so many other up-and-comers that came through the MAC. Tough place to build a winning program though.

If Kent can be one OT away from the Orange Bowl this decade, they can certainly get back to respectability. This coach seems to talk the talk, but talk is cheap when it comes to game management as we've seen with Martin. Best wishes to him, so long as they're not playing Miami.

All this coach has to do really is put his program in the position Akron is in and make a few bowl games to be a hero at Kent.

From that perspective I don't think its a tough hole to dig out of.

Can anyone confirm that the one Holley player from Kent is transferring as a grad transfer? He was their starting QB. I heard he's transferring to Toledo.

I'd be careful about calling MACtion "great", the attendance is usually piss poor and the games are very hard for students to attend especially in november when it's 30 degrees out. They do get us some national attention but I think all rivalry/marquee matchup games should be left out of MACtion.

I hope that rivalry games are split between October and November.

Going for it on 4th down.
Let's see if he is aggressive enough to have his punter throw a pass out of his own end zone. :)

No he isn't. The offer was there but he is entering the draft

Over the past 10 seasons, the 5 games with BG in the Glass Bowl- 3 were in November, 1 in October and 1 in September. 3 of the 5 in the Doyt were November and 2 in October.

RE: Flashes new coach not intimidated by KSU’s football history
and if the November games were on a Saturday before Thanksgiving they would be crowded. We must also acknowledge that besides TV MACtion the other thing that screwed up rivalry games and senior night was the move to a 12 game season w an obligatory bye week. Before that college football's big late season rivalry games (and senior nights) were early-mid november saturdays, except for a few unique ones like Texas/ Texas AM, Army-Navy... People enjoyed bundling up for a big late season weekend game after a warm tailgate or pre-party. One cold November Saturday in a full stadium was a lot different than 2 long late night four hour Tuesday marathons of fans scattered through the wind

I think you might be mis-remembering November Saturday crowds. If a MAC team gets a good late season crowd, it usually has to be a perfect storm of events. two contenders or an odd late season P5 game. The weather isn't any better on Saturday than it is on Tuesday. I don't think the difference in in-person attendance is that great.

No

Yes. ESPN money, and national TV coverage. Attendance was usually bad for Saturday games by the last two or three games of the year, so we are not really losing that much.
