Brad Tanner, back up safety who was rumored to be moving to WR is not listed on the 2018 roster. Had a knee injury. Did he hang it up.

Coach Lester did say that Tanner has left the team and that it was not for grades or disciplinary reasons.

RE: Brad Tanner
That sucks. I thought he was a steal at WR out of high school. Made some key plays in Romeo's state championship run, and really took it to Cass Tech in the final. Maybe the switch to DB was the death knell for his collegiate career.

RE: Brad Tanner
Always sad, especially if it was an injury that did him in. He was playing as a true freshman and certainly talented. However, there's a huge logjam at S and WR, he would have been the 4th or 5th safety this season, and possibly third team at WR, so not a catastrophic team loss, barring another injury-plagued campaign.

So at this point do you consider Wesley French a bust?

RE: Brad Tanner
I would not consider guys who graduated in the two-deep as busts, especially guys with multiple letters. I would not consider guys still on the roster busts either. Nor guys who were forced to leave due to injuries, nor guys who transferred only because more-talented players were recruited after them.

That's a lot of players you mentioned there, like Matich, or Bezerra, or Tanner, or even Flacco.

RE: Brad Tanner
I labeled them busts on how highly regarded they were coming out of high school in relationship of what they have done on the field. Obviously there is way more to consider in real life, and with that criteria, my opinion on if they were busts or not would change.

RE: Brad Tanner
Coach once told me if he recruited 25 kids likely 8-9 might see the field on regular basis. You go back five recruiting classes (to include redshirts) and average of 8-9 per class playing you get 40-45 kids. 44 kids is two deep on most teams. I think his math was pretty close. You will get transfers and injuries but five years gives you over 100 kids, 100 kids ain't playing on any team.

A former recruiting coordinator did a spreadsheet on that very topic and said 44 players get 80% of the PT.

The goal is for those 44 to be upper classmen.
