RE: @ Northeastern (Game 2)
Great play drawn up by McGrath, and even better execution by Cacok and Taylor!

As the Northeastern announcer said Ty Taylor really lives up to his name!

Another frustrating close loss... JMU on the road Thursday is huge right before another 3 game home stand.

https://s3.amazonaws.com/sidearm.sites/u...esults.pdf has your results going back to 1963-1964, and it was the fourteenth time you allowed at least 200 combined points in 2 consecutive games. The most you allowed in 2 games was 230, with 115 each on February 14, 1970 and February 21, 1970.

Hope that Hofstra can make the dance for you. It's been a long time. They've been good a for a while and need to make that next step. It may be your year, who knows?

UNCW needs to keep working to get better. They're at least competitive and that's pretty good for having a new coach and having lost so much from the year before. They are actually setting themselves up for a nice bounce back next year the way it's looking.

RE: @ Northeastern (Game 2)
The story of our conference season, get down by double digits in 2nd half, fight to come back, force OT but ultimately come up short.

McGrath made an interesting point in his postgame with Mike Vacarro saying that when they get down by 4 points, they try to do too much and don't play team basketball. But when they get down double digits they do a great job of working as a team to come back.

I knew the winters were harsh up in Long Island but there must not be anything to do if you're looking up stats to this extent. Don't even think we were a D1 program in 1970.

Just getting a chance to watch the game. One comment. What a depressing atmosphere for college basketball.

They don't look at it like people in the south do. It's a shame. It's a big deal in the south. That's not a fair statement to the real fans that care though. I wish there were more of them up there. Hofstra had a pretty decent crowd last night for them.

Whatever the reason, it's a depressing atmosphere. It has nothing to do with the real fans who do care. Makes me appreciate games at Trask. Win or lose we pack the house and lead the CAA in attendance.

It's a pro sports town fellas. That's the bottom line. They have Celtics, Bruins and everyone getting ready for the super bowl. In Wilmington, we were spoiled, it was the only show in town!

RE: @ Northeastern (Game 2)
It's a plague right now sweeping New England and to a lesser extent the rest of the country. Attendance is down in most sports and it's hard to come up with answers. A theory could be that kids are just more distracted with other things in the time of social media where everyone knows what everyone else is doing. It's kind of sad to see it happen, especially when our basketball and hockey teams are fighting for a conference title right now.

From 2010: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQ8FQVMKGfI

I know it's not a "crazy" atmosphere or anything, but at that point in our program we had decent attendance with tons of students courtside..including some that painted their entire bodies. It's really unlikely we'll ever get full arenas on a regular basis. That's just the nature of being in the heart of Boston where pro-sports rule, the weather is cold, and there are lots of things kids can do just by walking that are easier to get to than the on campus arena.

Watching the game last night though I can only agree and understand where you guys are coming from when you say it's a depressing atmosphere. It depresses me to see only a few students courtside during the game. Student attendance has declined the last couple years for sure.

The good news for NU is that we have a new Athletic Director that literally started on Thursday. I think he'll be able to energize the program and we hopefully will see a student attendance increase.

CAA attendance issues have been talked about a lot in recent years on this forum and usually end up being a bash NU thread while NU fans try to damage control. We understand the problems, and while they are especially clear at NU, they are also happening in most places. I wish there an easy answer.

RE: @ Northeastern (Game 2)
Not bashing anyone, making an observation. If my observation isn't true, feel free to correct me. It is shocking, to me, to watch a game and see less people than I do at a HS game here. I also feel for the players, coaches, cheerleaders and everyone else involved with the program out there giving everything they have to an empty arena.

NU has been a solid addition to the CAA as far as competition. But, if we want the conference to get the next level of having more than one bid, fan support is vital. Even UNCW was losing student attendance at games. It seems this year that has turned around despite a losing record. I hope your AD has success.

Nothing wrong with what you said. And it's true. NU at this point needs to accept that we have these problems and the new AD has the opportunity right now to change things for the better. I hope he does. We know it can get better, we've had better attendance in the past.

I think when Yeager invited NU to join in 2005 he knew adding a team in the 6th largest market with 4 pro teams and 4 major colleges within a 10 minute drive from each other could be a problem for attendance. Sure he knew.

Now everyone knows about our attendance issues. Has nothing to do with the team’s performance. Southern schools not named Duke, North Carolina, Miami or Clemson aren’t going to pack the arena like Michigan State did.

Let me ask y’all this ..

Supposed UNCW, UNC and let’s say UNC Greensboro were in Charlotte with Davidson? I mean if those universities were in the city. Joined by the Panthers and Hornets.

How good do you honestly think your attendance every year would be?

In terms of Boston region fans, they seem to have done so quite respectfully, and even made logical points. Could be far worse. Lol

It’s obviously a sore spot for them as true basketball fans.
