New "local" sports coverage: The Athletic
The Athletic, a subscription-based ad-free sports media publisher, is starting a team in Cincinnati. They have teams in about a dozen US cities, and seem to produce high quality content. The good news is that all the journalists that cover our local sports will be actually local, like Mo Egger.
But, as should be expected...
A Xavier hack will be covering Bearcats basketball:
And physicists made a breakthrough in a space-time bending experiment, and the Buckeyes now find themselves located in Cincinnati:
I'll give them a few months to see if they provide quality coverage of the Bearcats and if they do, I'll subscribe. But I'm not holding my breath.

I've been a subscriber for 6 months or so now and love the content both regionally from Columbus and Cleveland, where I'm also a fan of some teams, and nationally. Happy to see them expanding into Cincinnati sports. Absolutely zero ads or clutter, very clean, and bull**** free.
I highly recommend it to anyone who's on the fence.. and its only about 3 or 4 bucks a month.

The Athletic is the WCW of sports journalism... Gobbling up as much "talent" as possible.

This is the same outlet that said Malik Vann didn't know what was good for him by choosing UC over Ohio St during the early signing period

Meh- they can cover whomever they want. However, based on the lineup of writers I can tell it will be heavy on the Reds, Bengals, XU and OSU content and light on UC. I get this already in the Enquirer, the local sports news coverage and on WLW/1530. Why would I pay for a website for the same stuff I get for free?

This. I expect this to be a very pro XU / OSU outlet looking at who is writing the content.

I think it depends on the market, though they have not jumped the shark and brought in David Flair or Tank Abbot yet.

You're not going to be wrong but I pay for coverage for multiple teams across multiple leagues. In sports, I care about more than just the Bearcats 24/7 and it provides me access to everything. If you're wanting coverage exclusively for the Bearcats, this site isn't for you - that's what the BearcatJournal is for.
I also don't have it intertwined with politics, or the latest gossip. It's far more analytical and fact based than what ESPN, SI, Enquirer, etc provide.

I actually do care about the Bengals and Reds. I just don't see how they are going to add me anything different than what I am already getting about those clubs.... the cast they have signed up are the same people already talking about those ball clubs in the Enquirer and on the radio. I'm not paying money to read about whether Andy Dalton is the guy long term here or read features about guys that Lap and Lance bring down to Belterra three nights a week. Analytics-- we get that already in the local coverage.
As the old saying goes, why buy the cow when you already get the milk for free?

This would be worth it just based on the fact that I don't have those full page expanding ads or auto playing car ads that are on USA today / Cincinnati.com.
