UGA raised their ticket prices for 2018 and announced variable pricing. They now will charge $75 for P5 opponents and $55 for others. That means Idaho St. is charged the same price as a Memphis or Cincinnati, not that I recall UGA scheduling any higher level G5s recently. Mostly its Sun Belt and FCS for its non-P5 games.

Auburn's policy formalized the difference a number of years ago. I think FCS games were $5 or $10 cheaper than G5.

Some schools vary game by game. Georgia Tech about doubles their price for UGA whose fans buy about half the seats.

It's a smart practice to charge less for a G5/FCS game because fans are less interested in being there in the first place. That and it makes it easier to get rid of tickets on the secondary market which means some people who can't afford season tickets might get to go to a game every now and then.

There's an underlying reality though...

This sort of dynamic creates an incentive to have more Power v Power games in the future. The demand would be higher and therefore you could charge more for those tickets. Perhaps even the difference in cost could make up for some schools losing a home game.

Also, if the number of home games are reduced then that creates scarcity which automatically creates higher demand assuming each remaining home game is a quality opponent.

Makes sense

With few exceptions most P5 simply don't get excited about playing G5 and there just isn't the demand for tickets to those games

Penn St charges a premium for some in conference games. So tickets for Rutgers and Maryland games cost more than Minnesota or Nebraska.
