Don't get me wrong. I have no problem with questioning coaching strategies. That's something that has always been on these boards, no matter how good or bad we've been. I still remember Brownell being questioned about not calling a timeout at the end of the Maryland game. Created good arguments for both sides.
Sorry for using such a sore subject as my example.

The Golden State Warriors lost by 30+ points. The fans have given up.

LOL Do you think we are the golden state warriors?

Nope. I believe we are a team with a good base, but with holes to fill. And the last thing they need are fans turning on them every time they have a bad game. Even the best teams have bad games. i.e., Golden State. Or UNC vs Wofford. I still contend that this team is a work in progress. And, while it's a pretty big drop off from the last three seasons, it's in better shape than the previous ten years after Brownell left. Very few coaches have walked into a depleted program and turned it around overnight.
This coaching staff deserves the opportunity to make things happen. If it doesn't happen, then I will speak out. McGrath hasn't even had a full recruiting cycle yet. So as of now, I will give my support and see what happens.

Agree 1000 percent. This needs to be posted on the front page.

The UNCW teams of the last 3 years were an outlier. There's never been a successful team in this league that didn't find ways to get stops. Even VCU, with their pressing/trapping style, still got stops.

We beat teams the last several years because we overwhelmed them with length and athleticism. We got deflections, turnovers and wins no ordinary CAA team would get.
We seem to write off the last three years as an outlier a lot..... A coach having success right away, a style working...

And maybe Keatts knew it also and jumped ship the first time a Power 5 program came calling. Just saying.

He was here for 3 years, he did not build a program here.

And you believe we'd have the same record if we had this exact same roster with Keatts as coach?

Not sure. Keatts would be missing the length that Flemmings and Bryce supplied. Remember, Keatts' team defense got worse the closer the ball got to the basket. The biggest advantage we would have, would be that most our players have played Keatts style ball. And McGrath doesn't play that style, so he needs to bring in his players to accomplish it.
And on the other hand, if you're looking for another coach like Keatts to fall in our lap, good luck with that.

Only 4 scholarship players on this current roster have even played in an actual game with Keatts as a coach. So it is hard to tell. We might have 1 or 2 more conference wins. We would have played an easier non conference schedule with Keatts, so that might give us another 2 wins.

But the reality is this team is learning a new system with a new staff.

Absolutely not. We would have Bryce and the full recruiting class. Judging from this years CAA teams, I believe we would be in the top 3 easily.

We are playing this year with basically 7 scholarship players, two of which are freshman. While also learning a new system with a new staff.

That's not what I asked. If we had the SAME roster we have right now, would we be 4-7 in the CAA and 7-16 overall with one win on the road?

I realized that after I posted. I edited my original post addressing your question.

I was addressing a direct statement that Keatts jumped at his first chance because he knew we'd be this bad. Keatts is really good, maybe great. We'll see. So no, I don't expect another Keatts level coach to drop in our lap. I do not have a long term thought McGrath is going to fail. In fact, I was thrilled to see him make some changes on defense that helped us compete and win a few games. That bodes well for the future. I'd love to see him do well since I do believe he'd stay.

And maybe the Hofstra game was a one off in an upward trend? I watched the whole game and the strategy of abandoning what has helped us get on track simply made no sense. That's all I said and all I meant. I'm not predicting future failure. I'm not abandoning this team. I'm just questioning why we did a 180 back to a failed strategy? That was a really important game for THIS team, THIS year, and IMO the defensive strategy lost that game.

We even switched back to Gary at PG instead of Brown for awhile, and played Estime and Gary at the same time again. First time that's happened in a few weeks. None of it made any sense, and we did look just as bad on defense as we did at the beginning of the season when we only played man. Am I wrong? We haven't given up over 84 pts. in the last 6 games, and gave up 96 pts. We also allowed the highest FG% of the year.

I'm hoping we get back to what we were doing to be competitive tonight.

What's the point of the question? We can play what ifs all day on here if we wanted. It doesn't accomplish anything dwelling on the past, IMO.

Too many moving parts, and if he was still here CJ would likely be also.

That too, and I just don’t see how the comparison or proposed question even matters. It’s like comparing ex girlfriends or wives. Just move on and learn as ya go. Such is life.

Hopefully we get back on track against JMU again and build on that back in Trask.
