The second is these morons who do the "Carolina Squat" to their trucks. If you aren't familiar with the term it's when you lower the rear end of a truck or SUV and sometimes slightly raise the front end so it looks like this:



It's about the dumbest thing I've ever seen. To me it looks like a dog dragging it's ass across the yard because of an infected anal gland. Got a good laugh one day when a guy told this kid driving a Silverado like that "Nice looking truck. When is daddy going to buy you the rest of your lift kit?"

There's absolutely no way that can ride comfortably, and it's absolutely useless off road. I just don't understand the appeal.

We had an old canopy cab (where the rear seats were open instead of having doors) American La France reserve pumper that we would use while our regular pumper was in the shop. At some point someone had turned up the injectors to try and squeeze some more power out of the tired old Detroit diesel engine. As a result when you got down hard on the accelerator it would look one of those 1800's coal fired locomotives.

One day when I was the Engineer we were using the reserve when we had a call. On the way back we were caught at the stoplight and these teenaged punks were mouthing off to the fire fighters in the back. One of the firefighters slid the sliding window open and said "When the light turns green stand on it" so I did. Light turns green, I floored it and the smartassed teenagers disappeared in the huge black cloud.

Same week, different shift we had a thunderstorm roll in and we were running calls all over creation. At one point we were clearing one call and caught another one so another engine company was behind us. We get about halfway to the next call when the engine behind us calls us on the radio to advise us they were going to pass us. (Whenever we had apparatus pass another apparatus from behind they would communicate via the radio because the rear visibility is somewhat limited, fire trucks are usually large, and it reduces the chance of a collision) We get to the call and as the Captains and Firefighters go inside I say to the other Engineer "Y'all must have really wanted to do another fire report" because as the first arriving company they were in charge. The other Engineer says "It was a decent trade-off to avoid dying of carbon monoxide poisoning. You had that thing rolling smoke like a tire fire."

As for your other example. Not to sound un-PC or uncouth, but if we saw a pick-em-up truck looking like that up here, the first thought would be the driver was a resident of the country south of Texas.....

I was talking more about either the light bars or the "bulbs" that are more like airport spotlights. Fine line between trying to driver safer and blinding everyone else on the road.

The two that bother me the most are Bradford Pears and Red Tips. First thing I did when we moved in this house is cut down the one Bradford and the entire windrow of Red Tips in the back yard. Sadly the neighbors on one side have several Bradfords, although they tend to lose one a year to storms, and the one on the other side and just up the street have a whole windrow of Red Tips.

For me it's the purple hell of wisteria. Our warm spell in January got it to bloom early and then the two freezes we've had since knocked it out. This has been one of the mildest allergy seasons for me so far, but the Fall is my worst time. Peanut dust in particular has been my nemesis.

The folks in West Georgia and East Alabama that have the roughest time are those who have issues with Pine pollen and its out. Azaleas are in full bloom in my yard right now as well as the dogwoods and we've had beautiful weather every day but Monday.

I've been preparing the garden for most of the week. Probably won't plant until closer to Easter this year because we'll probably have another freeze. My blueberries survived the first two freezes and my blackberries look like they are about to bloom.

Stink the best thing you can do is buy some local wild honey that hasn't been pasteurized and use it on your biscuits or bread. There's nothing better for your allergies than local wild honey.

my pops (finally) only has one bradford left....li'l bubba finally tore his two out and hasn't looked back since....I hate that tree in every way, shape, and form...like the azalea they're only good for a couple of weeks in bloom...

and you're right, due to their shallow root system, they're very susceptible to storm damage....

I'm going to take you up on that one tomorrow....you're not the first that's suggested that in the past...I'm just a stubborn bastage at times...

I was the worst person my allergist had ever seen. They actually stopped the allergy testing on me and just took blood because they were worried I was going to go into anaphylactic shock. I was allergic to everything they tested me for with the exception of a weed called red top.

Six years later after having done the sublingual therapy I barely register allergies as a blip. This Spring the worst I've had is a little bit of crusty sleep on my eyes one morning a few days ago. Normally I'd have been a mess.

The only thing I still notice any reaction to is a real Christmas tree in the house. But only if I sleep in the house with it. Being in the house aside from sleeping there causes me no issues.
