RE: UTEP game thread
In Marshall and WKUs case. Marshall has the best gameday atmosphere in the league and they capitalized when the best team in the league came to town. they won.
WKU has actually beat somebody out side of conference play and they were undefeated in CUSA play going into their biggest homestand.
We have no good wins in Nonconference play, we blew our biggest home game in which we couldn’t stop two guys. and we’ve gotten swept by the other 2 of the top 3 teams in the league. Then we come home to play a 7-12 Utep team. That’s not attractive to people other than you and I. we show up to see UAB basketball, others show up to see good basketball and that’s not something that we are playing right now. We’ve got UTSA tonight, many people who are basketball fans in the south wouldnt even have an idea they are playing CUSA basketball moreso wouldn’t know they were a d1 team.
As far as students go, it’s the weekend. Many of them don’t live on campus. They hate having to travel on campus looking for parking that ain’t there, they’re ready to go home on Friday. You get a decent showing (sometimes) on Thursday. Mainly because our coaches of women’s athletics forcing the Softball, Soccer, Volleyball teams to go. And if they don’t want to be there, you’re dang right they aren’t going to have any excitement and energy. You could make an argument that the only students on campus during the weekends are out of staters, foreigners, athletes. No interest there.
If you want to use AU as an example. Pearl said they aren’t going to have fans wait til they are good and then show up. They’re going to fill the arena and steal games they initially didn’t have the talent to win. Recruits saw the crowd, (most importantly the money AU was willing To pay them) the early wins and jumped on board. in spite of all that, of course they were willing to go on the road to play teams. And yes it’s easier for them to draw name teams to play them at home. But the hiring of Bruce pearl put butts in seats just like SMU hiring Larry Brown immediately put butts in seats.
When you prop up a signing class to be one of the best classes signed in school history and the teams flop harder the older they get. It turns off those other fans and moreso recruits who see we can’t take care of business. And they’re not going to feel sorry for us regardless of injuries.
For the I’m there rain or shine crowd, where’s that energy you have for men’s basketball when it comes to women’s basketball who is sitting at 16-3. You gonna show up early to watch the ladies today?

The reality is, its hard to get fans excited to see the kind of weak teams we play most nights.
Two of the better games come at the end of the regular season. Hopefully we will be fighting for a 4 seed.
Interesting match up Saturday night with Marshall at WKU.
I guess we need WKU to win to give us a chance to retake 4th place.
We will have a number of new coaches next year. Charlotte, UTEP, one of the F*U schools and maybe USM.
I guess Marshall and Western Kentucky fans are too ignorant of basketball to know that the teams their team are playing are weak and unexciting. Silly fans only go to see their team play.
Fans should go see their team play, not the opponent.
yes they should...Go Blazers!
