I still think the plan is to get him more minutes as we head towards March but he really needs to pick it up against this level of competition.

thats from poor coaching. JJ probably more razzle dazzle than cane. Both go get pulled asap if they try go one on one and it fails. JJ just has learned dont even try it at all. The kis shoots 2-3 wide open shots a game and coach still said he's pressing. Cane has to just learn Mick ball or else right now. Mick has luxury of yelling and taking Cane out against teams we supposed to beat, like see how cane is coached in March when we down against a team with better players than us.

I still think you must be JJ's dad....you've been pimping him for three years.

There's still some time, but it seems like our PG situation is going to be a big weakness.

What has been missing from his game that makes you feel this way? he really started to get in going at the beginning of december and then getting hurt at the end of the month set him back.

and while he was clearly slowed by the ankle vs smu, the past 4 games he has 17 assists and 4 turnovers. the team has been playing great while he's been at the point.

30.1 ARate on the season is very good, 35.3 ARate in conference is ridiculously good.

Past 4 games the team is +88 when he's on the court. Team is +1 in those 4 games with Jenifer on the court.

Interesting stats, thanks for posting them. I guess I'm more looking at his play as I see it, rather than mining the stats, and maybe that's a mistake. I thought he looked a lot more comfortable against Memphis. I'm convinced that Jenifer is a solid backup but not a guy who should get big minutes on a Final 4 type team, so I'm hoping Broome continues getting minutes and producing.

Nowhere near the handle needed for the spot. Sometimes the synapses get overwhelmed on otherwise easy plays like on inbounds.

As I said the other night in the Memphis game thread. He is mercurial. He will make a great feed and follow that up with a play or two that you just can’t make at this level.

In his defense I do not know how much time he has spent in a structured offense or defense before this year. There is still way too much thinking going on out there.

He's lock for nba right now. He cleaned up his biggest weakness real quick. Instead of going for layups and missing them, he's starting to try dunk everything?

I guess I'd rather see what we can get with Broome in there for 25-30 minutes a game, especially now that Evans can also be the creator in the half court.

Jenifer hasn't scored in the last hour of gametime, and it's not like UC's been facing potential Sweet 16 teams. It's really difficult to be a significant net positive when he doesn't score and doesn't set guys up. He is a very good defender and doesn't make many mistakes, but I fear that that won't be near enough if he gets 20 minutes against top 15 type teams. I think Cronin will continue to give him significant minutes, though, so hopefully Jenifer sees a few shots go in (or regresses to the mean or whatever), gets some confidence, and provides some good offense the rest of the year.

Seems more likely he ends up overseas.

Mick knows who the go to is. Look who is in the game for the key parts against any of the good opponents. Its always Broome and then Jenifer gets back in if the lead gets big enough.

But there are clearly still lessons Mick wants Broome to learn, so if we are comfortable in a game, any mistake is getting Broome sent to the bench.

Which is probably why Broome looks like he's out there thinking instead of playing sometimes. Doubt creeps in when you aren't allowed to make a mistake.

Problem is forgetting assignments, panicking a little when inbounding the ball, going under screens when the guy is a shooter, etc, are not mistakes from thinking too much. Broome is a really odd dude sometimes.

But then he bangs in a couple of threes, or blows by the defense culminating in a dish for an open dunk and you go back to wanting more...

Yep. When he gets set and left alone up top and the ball reverses to him he is very, very good. His percentage on that type of shot has to be in the 60% range. He really struggles to create his own shot, though. More of a set and wait outside shooter.

Seems to struggle more going to the rim against teams with decent athletes than he was earlier in the schedule. I think this year has been a wake up call for him. Even the Houston's and Memphis' of the world are a huge step up over what he was driving against while at Sacred Heart.
