Numbers presented:
Stadium cost ---$172 million
Jeffco offer--------$30 million
B'ham offer?------$90 million
Left uncommitted-$52 million

There is still plenty of offer space left for someone to fill.

I said it a while back...I'll be surprised if it ever happens.

The only way to guarantee UAB a new home is to build one ourselves. After a year back on the field, I think UAB is closer to an OCS than Birmingham is to doing anything. If they balk after the county commits $$$, it tells you how serious they really are about it.

I believe the hole in the funding is from the rental car tax that is on the books but not being collected. They're counting on the legislature to re-approve it, so, it's a pretty big gamble. Especially with the city also lobbying separately for state money for Legion Field

I have seen the $172m number in several articles lately. Wasn't the estimated cost $125m when the plan was first released?

Costs go up as time goes on, which is why all this dithering is stupid

The project will cost over 300 million. The stadium is just one aspect of it. 90,000sf exhibition space, addition to Uptown, complete renovation of the BJCC Complex, added retail and restaurant / concession in main arena, added elevated walkways, and a new facade on the entire complex. There is also discussion of an added parking deck.

He'll step up to the mic and whisper about how Legion Field renovations and the BJCC/Stadium projects aren't mutually exclusive. Everybody wins. What a joke.

RE: Birmingham City Council and Mayor Woodfin to Discuss BJCC Expansion on Wednesday
Erin Edgemon @eedgemon

...Standing room only crowd for Birmingham City Council's committee meeting on downtown stadium funding.
...Mayor Woodfin is expected to propose amount the city should contribute to the project.
‏...BJCC Executive Director Tad Snider is also in the house.
...Woodfin to Council: I think it is time we actually move beyond just talk. (on the stadium. He showed an article from 1965 that talked about a new stadium for downtown.)
...Woodfin said the city doesn't have the money to fund its priorities.
...Despite that Woodfin said the investment will net revenues for the city. We have to invest in infrastructure upgrades.
...Woodfin is working to sell city councilors on the project. Councilors Tyson and Scales aren't in attendance.
...BJCC Executive Director Tad Snider: This is about driving tourism.
...Snider is giving council a look at what the renovated Legacy Arena would look like and what the new stadium would look like.
...“UAB is committed to $4 million a year for 10 years,” says #BJCC exec. Includes revenue from lease, naming rights, corporate sponsorship, suites.

So in other tweets I've seen, UAB is willing to sign a ten year lease, but will sign a memorandum of understanding that they won't build an on campus stadium for at least 20 years (that was an answer in response to the city council asking what if UAB decided to build their own stadium at the end of the lease)

Council just approved (I believe unanimously) to forward the proposal to the next official city council agenda on Feb 6th. That's a promising step!

Unanimously among the councilors there. 2 were absent (I think the two biggest Legion Field cheerleaders, but not sure)

Yeah, Scales and Tyson were missing. I think LF is in Tyson's district, and Lashunda has been pushing the Legion Field idea.

Another recruiting tool for Coach Clark. Hopefully the lure of staying home and playing in the new stadium will also keep the TON of local players home. Birmingham is being bombarded by coaches after local 2019 talent...

Chances are pretty good that in 10 years there won't be any place to put it anyway. In 20 years, definitely not...

Tyson showed up a little late, but she asked a couple questions and voted yes on moving to the full council. 8 out of the 9 councilors were there today and voted yes. Scales was missing and she's been the biggest Legion Field proponent. She may vote no, but it seems like the item should pass on Tuesday.
