3. Charleston 5-3 (# 123)
Hofstra 5-3 (# 84)
5. Towson 4-4 (# 105)
Elon 4-4 (# 132)
Delaware 4-4 (# 228)
8. UNCW 3-5 (# 270)
9. JMU 2-6 (# 292)

10. Drexel 1-7 (# 268)

Efficiency Rankings (kenpom.com)

UNCW

Adjusted Offense: # 195 (of 351)
Adjusted Defense: # 323
Overall: # 274

JMU

Adjusted Offense: # 219
Adjusted Defense: # 256
Overall: # 244

Projected Starters

PG: Matt Lewis (Fr.): 11.9 ppg, 2.0 apg, 3.5 rpg
SG: Stuckey Mosley (r-Jr.): 19.1 ppg, 4.4 rpg, .399 3-pt %
G: Darius Banks (Fr.): 10.0 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 1.5 spg
PF: Ramone Snowden (r-Sr.): 7.0 ppg, 4.0 rpg, .431 3-pt %
C: Develle Phillips (Jr.): 9.1 ppg, 7.0 rpg, 1.6 bpg

With a 14-38 record against D-I foes 1.5 seasons into his tenure as Dukes Head Coach, JMU alum Louis Rowe has had a rough go at the helm of his alma mater. His CAA record is a good bit better (9-17), but still well below expectations for a program that won the league in 2013.

Still, there are glimmers of hope with this year's roster. A pair of transfers, Mosley (Toledo) and Snowden (Niagara) have immediately jumped into the starting lineup and produced dividents. And true Center Phillips is 3rd in the CAA in blocks per contest.

JMU is the least efficient shooting team in the league. They rank 10th in FG % and 9th in three-point shooting (.336). They're about average in nearly all other key categories, except in Turnovers. JMU are 1st in the league in Steals and 2nd in Turnover Margin (+1.62).

RE: JMU
Obviously, we need to win this one. I would like to see us play a complete game. We've improved a lot in recent weeks but we still seem to have lulls in the game where we can't score and turn the ball over often. I would like to see us keep the turnovers in the single digits, get a double digit lead, and be the better team throughout the game.

RE: JMU
My main concern is how we play to the competition. We've played a lot of good teams recently. JMU is a CAA bottom dweller. I want to see us control this game, and control it start to finish. Don't be surprised if JMU plays well though. They easily could have beat WM in Williamsburg if they didn't choke. So don't under estimate them.

This will give us a good barometer of where we stand though.

Agree 100%. We can't let off the gas at any point. Once we get comfortable we tend to slow down.

Seahawks Try To Build On Momentum

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW men's basketball team continues its second three-game home stand on Thursday when longtime conference rival James Madison pays a visit to the Port City for a Colonial Athletic Association matchup at Trask Coliseum.

Live Seahawk Digital Network (SDN) coverage of the contest begins at 6:45 p.m. with Mike Vaccaro, the "Voice of the Seahawks," and Marty Feurer calling the action. Visit UNCWsports.com/SDN for live audio and video coverage. In addition, a radio broadcast of the game may be heard on "The Ticket" 95.9 FM and WKXB (99.9 FM-HD3).

The Seahawks, 6-14 overall and 3-5 in the CAA, are coming off an uplifting 73-71 victory in overtime over Towson last Saturday night. It marked the third overtime game in the last four outings for Head Coach C.B. McGrath and his retooled club.

"We're playing with some confidence right now," McGrath said this week. "Our non-conference schedule didn't pan out like we thought it would. And we lost some close conference games early. We've battled back in the last couple weeks and our guys realize that we can be a good ball club when we put it together."

UNCW showed a lot of spunk in Saturday's exciting win over Towson, which was picked to finish second in the league in the annual preseason poll. UNCW trailed by 12 points with 11:57 remaining in regulation before rallying to force overtime and outlasting the Tigers in the extra session.

"We just made enough plays to get over the top and win," McGrath said of the Towson nailbiter. "Guys are playing different roles every night and other guys have stepped up. It's been fun to see."

While new faces have been contributing lately, the big three – junior forward Devontae Cacok, senior playmaker Jordon Talley and redshirt sophomore guard Ty Taylor – have been rock solid.

Cacok (Alpharetta HS/Riverdale, Ga.) continues to be a double-double machine and has cranked out a league-best 14 double-doubles and remains the leading rebounder in the NCAA Division I ranks. He leads the team in scoring (17.4) and rebounding (12.7).

Talley (Henrico HS/Richmond, Va.) is one of the CAA's top point guards. He ranks second on the team with 16.1 points each game and is dishing out 5.9 assists. He is making his 114th career appearance on Thursday, and ranks 17th on the school's scoring list with 1,088 points.

Taylor, meanwhile, has been a major catalyst in recent games. The Grandview, Mo., product ranks third on the team in scoring at 13.6 ppg, but has led the team in scoring the last two outings with 23 points at Charleston and 20 points vs. Towson. The Wichita State transfer has turned in big second halves in the last two outings.

Like the Seahawks, the Dukes, 6-15 and 2-6, are starting to come around, too. JMU edged Drexel, 75-73, last Saturday at the JMU Convocation Center and brings a modest two-game winning streak to Wilmington.

JMU features a balanced scoring attack, led by Toledo transfer Stuckey Mosley, who is collecting 19.1 ppg. Freshman guard Matt Lewis is contributing 11.9, senior guard Joey McLean is scoring 11.6 and rookie guard Darius Banks is adding 10.0 ppg.

"We're playing at home and we can't take anything for granted," added McGrath. "James Madison has also played in some very close games and they're starting to play better. They have a lot of new pieces and players. We'll have to do some things to get them out of their rhythm."

The Seahawks and Dukes are meeting for the 73rd time overall and 33rd time at Trask Coliseum. UNCW owns a 39-33 advantage in the series since the first clash on Dec. 16, 1979. The Seahawks have won six in a row over the Dukes since a 64-62 defeat on Feb. 15, 2014, in Harrisonburg, Va.

Jeez. So on a neutral court, Vegas would have this as a pick 'em game.

You would think that the Hawks would get this one by the way they've been playing.

There are some strange lines tonight in the conference. Will see how things shake out.

Hofstra is favored over NU by 1
Towson is favored by 7 over W&M
Elon is favored by 2 over Drexel
CofC is favored by 5.5 over Delaware
UNCW favored by 3/2.5 over JMU

JMU has won 2 in a row and also playing better. That Stuckey Mosley kid can play. Good guards have single handily beaten us this year.

That sounds more like it. Though of course all that means is more people bet on us than JMU since yesterday.

RE: JMU
The most interesting aspect of the game tonight will be our substitution pattern. Since nobody off the bench has really locked down a spot, hopefully Brown gets a chance to follow up a great showing against Towson with more PT.

JMU will bring an athletic team to Trask, which gave us problems in the non-conference slant. Stopping the drive and staying out of foul trouble will be the key(isn't it always?).

I think we've had enough of our losing ways and we come out swinging. Fornes gets back on track and we have our most balanced attack on offense in CAA action. Brown takes over the primary role of backing up our guards and provides the spark off the bench we need desperately.

Hawks - 82
EZU wannabe's - 74

McGrath has a rule that if you get a technical in a game, then you don’t start the next game.

I can't say that he deserved to start off of one performance. He finished the game against Towson, and that is more important than starting.

Sorry, but what a demotivating move. Brown saved our tails and played 28 minutes of almost flawless basketball. He shouldn't start over Talley if he is playing, but this particular game where Talley sits because of a tech, he absolutely earned it.
