He will want to start wherever he goes, so, not sure he'll be interested in the prospect of backing up Nathan for two years. Possible we could sell him on moving Nathan to the stretch four and playing both together, or vice versa. Would be a major get for the staff if he came.

Verbal commits reports 2 years eligibility, but who knows for sure if that is accurate. Grad transfer eligible immediately and would make next years junior class ridiculous. Pierce, Milon, Knight, and Walker.

2018 CAA MBB Transfers
Agree. I think high major is his intention. He originally committed to Princeton back when we were involved, then decommitted when I think his father was not happy with the financial package offered. Had scheduled visits, including South Carolina, but cancelled all visits after going to Samford first. Business major. Proven big man whom if his knee and shoulder issues prove healthy will get a lot of P5 love.
Since he played two games this year, he'd still have to get a medical waiver for that second year.

Maybe if we win the CAA this year then all the publicity about our making the dance for the first time that comes with it would give us a shot at him :).

We often compete against Hofstra for recruits. If we are desperate for bigs, what do you think they are? They can certainly promise the minutes.
Maybe, and this is the fan in me wishing, last night’s results reflect a certain momentum in the two programs that will carry over to recruiting.

I'd be more concerned about the southern schools. He is a Florida boy. I saw that the JMU coach is following him as well

Not an exact science, but a gauge of mutual interest - UMass and Dayton coaches are Walker's first coaching friends since the announcement.

He's getting some love at UNCW as well and would fill an immediate need.

2018 CAA MBB Transfers
Walker had no threat for playing time at Samford next year. Only two other players from the original five in his recruiting class are still there, and those two are not significant returning players for a team that dropped significantly in the SoCon this year (10-22), partly due to injuries, including Walker's.
Walker, as an underclass HS teammate of Grayson Allen, played some high end HS ball. Scott Padgett was a 2nd year HC at Samford with a fairly high recruiting class brought in with Walker. Would expect Walker saw Padget as a great chance to be mentored by a known Kentucky/NBA big man with the hype that Padgett was turning the program around. Samford has only had one winning season in Padgett's four years, though. I would suspect that Walker's priority for leaving Samford is getting the opportunity to play in the NCAA tournament. It's the one area we can't confidently check the box on. So, unless he has no offers from a perennial tournament team, I don't see him coming here, or to UNCW, or to Hofstra, or any other mid-major, since none can sell that assurance.
Of course, there is always the girlfriend factor.

If he doesn't have one, UNCW is a good place to get a 10

That's where you guys are late. W&M has already sent out scholarship paperwork to his girlfriend.

Can someone give a primer on the transfer timeline. I assume we spend the next weeks/months hoping our guys don’t transfer and wondering who will come free to transfer in. When can they sign?

Signing period is April 11th through May 16th. Players can still commit after May 16th, but nothing binding at that point (for what that's worth in today's environment.)

RE: 2018 CAA MBB Transfers
There is a lot of posting on this board that seem to assume we WILL get a grad transfer. While that sounds optimal, I would still think that is a long shot. The Verbal Commits transfer list, which I know is often in error, doesn't look too promising as of now.
Hope I am wrong.

RE: 2018 CAA MBB Transfers
Getting a grad transfer is a stated goal of the coaching staff, I believe. Will they get one? Who knows? That's what fan message boards are for. Speculation on who is available and what they can bring to the team. Whether there is mutual interest is pure speculation. I have no doubt that the coaches are actively looking though.
