Well put CG_Hawk, I agree completely. I firmly believe we are in good hands with McGrath.

So what you're saying is those of us who said "Let the season play out. Give it time, etc"

Well... we weren't all that wrong now were we?

I'm seriously perplexed by anyone who thinks a FIRST TIME head coach is going to have everything figured out right out of the gate.

33 is right, it's not stubbornness if a head coach has a plan and wants to stick to it through the first 10-15 games of his first season. It's not. That logic is completely flawed. Do you give up in your plans at the first sign of adversity? Or do you keep pressing, and after a certain period of time perhaps realize your plan needs a tweak or two to improve the success rate?

Sometimes you have to scale the view out a little bit and see the big picture. Remember watching Sesame Street as a kid and they show you a really blurry image on the screen? Think of that as the first couple games. Then they zoom out a little bit and you can start to see an image and start making more educated guesses on what it is? Think of that as the first 10 games. Then they zoom out a little more and your educated guesses are either right or wrong and you make more educated guesses based on the data your eyes are receiving? Think of that games 10-15. McGrath is getting more exposure to this team in a game environment just like they are getting more exposure to him. Both sides are beginning to see a more clear picture of the end result.

Sometimes you can't look at that blurry picture, watch someone make a guess as to what it is and when they're wrong call them a fool and incapable of getting it right. Sometimes, you have to give first timers a little time. Coach K didn't win national championships at the Army Academy. Neither did Bobby Knight. Bill Belichick was fired by the Browns and not successful there either, but that didn't mean he was incapable of becoming a really good coach (as much as that statement makes me sick to my stomach).

Remember... give people time. Go look at your response to what I wrote about Coach Barefoot on the Women's Basketball thread. Then look at the difference in how you've treated Coach McGrath on here. Maybe take the UNC-hate blinders off a little and learn to give people a chance from the start instead of going all "chicken little" on everything.

End rant.

Cg that’s apples to oranges. Men’s has been on top for three years woman’s hoops has been a dumpster fire for years.

Doesn't mean that McGrath didn't enter his first season as HC with a series of challenges, experienced before and during the season:

1) Unrealistic expectations left over from Keatts

2) Graduation of Flemmings, Ingram, Mosely, and Chuck

3) The transfer of Bryce

4) The arrival, and sudden departure, of Sallah

5) The injury of Elmore

6) The removal of Richmond from the program

We were told by the likes of you to ignore all of these things, because they're just excuses, that this team really was a lot more talented than the record indicated, and that coaching was by far the biggest problem.

We were also told that there were zero positives and little reason to hope, and that we all were just waving the pom poms. Which was utterly ridiculous to say.

It's nice that everyone seems to be on board now and has found reasons to praise the coaching staff. And yeah, I know I was one of those that was ready to throw in the towel on the current season, so I'm certainly among the crowd that was frustrated. But people were entirely too quick to judge this coaching staff based on pre-conceived notions, and it was worth CG's time to point that out so that maybe if we have a couple more rough patches this season, people won't return to that level of dreariness again.

RE: Towson round 2
Gotta say that the Towson win was just flat out effort by a UNCW team that was totally outmanned. Marcus Bryan has to be the surprise of the decade to me,just did not see him ever being a guy that could contribute like he has this season. In regard to Brown,I saw him in HS and always knew he could play and help a team if given the chance. The kid is super quick and aggressive. The two fouls on Cacok to start the game could have spelled doom for these guys but they hung tough while getting zero calls their way. Coach made the call of the game when he put Cacok back in the game when it looked like it might be slipping away.
Game balls to Bryan,Brown and the student section!

Easier now because we have actually seen positives. Before this 4 game stretch, we had seen very little. I'm a show me guy. I'm not going to have blind faith in something i have never seen.

Oh please.

Spare me the "we told you so" BS. The complaints many of us had were legitimate and have borne out to be true.

1. We were told that this roster was simply too bad to be better than our horrible record. Do you stand by that statement? If so, how is it that you are now saying "we can compete with anyone in the CAA"? Were you wrong then, or are you wrong now?

2. I'm not a DI coach, but I and many others could see we needed something more than just "play harder" in a man to man defense when we were next to last IN THE NATION. McGrath FINALLY came around to playing zone and, gulp, press. Gee, what happened? We finally began to play better and compete. He also began playing our best players far more which has also had a positive affect. Again, an adjustment many were looking for.

The job of any coach is to adjust and compete/win with what you have. McGrath wasn't doing that to start, but he is now. That bodes well long term, but the refusal to adjust rightfully brought about concern. I'm glad he is turning things around as a fan and alumni. He's a good guy and has expressed a desire to stay here, which would be good for our program if he does well. But our concerns were justified and to pretend they weren't is foolish.

Good, I'm glad you both clarified where you stand. We all were wondering since you weren't all that vocal seven games into the season.

The point is, you started the complaints 7 games in, not how long we struggled. I don't think the "I told you so" message is all that necessary either, but when you're as vocal as some were, you can't expect for everyone to just let it pass.

For the all the reasons 82 pointed out above, you can't have it both ways though. I'm happy it appears i've been wrong....

Let what pass? We were asking for adjustments to be made, that's it. None were made until we finally hit CAA play and since they were made we are playing better. That's all we were for. Or, are you denying that adjustments have been made?

lol, of course adjustments were made. And that's the point. Rather than have a little patience and assume the coaching staff knew adjustments would be made, and would attempt to make them, you decided to make post after post complaining about it. We heard you the first 700 times you called for a zone and a press. There was no need to make the board unreadable.

You can be forgiven for that, because like I said, we were all frustrated. Let's just make sure that doesn't happen again, because we know there are going to be other rough days this season.
