Bryan was really good down the stretch...the rebound tip to Fornes on the second possession of OT was also awesome. I'm really glad we got over the hump tonight.

I'm really impressed with the work the staff has done with Bryant. He is night and day to last year.

I agree. I only caught the last 12 minutes of the second half, but he played really well. Player development bodes well for the future.

I didn't see any of the second half or OT, but just reading what people have said. Even before tonight, you could certainly see improvement in his game.

Bottom line is this team gutted it out. They didn't let Towson intimidate them. Towson players were in our guys ears all game. But they woke the bear.

Marcus was huge! He's really gotten better and stepped up. Brown played well. Talley has a big heart and made up for having a bad night early. Those FT's and that 3 ball was clutch. Taylor is a machine and Fornes came through in the end after a slow night.

The team has improved a ton over the year. We're in good shape going forward if this staff can keep continuity. I didn't expect this team to turn it around, but maybe they have. Who knows?

That one kid from Towson is good! He was hard to stop and could get his. Towson is a tough and physical team so this was a good win. Hawks have to beat JMU to validate things and somehow beat the Tribe too.

Worst officiated game I have seen in some time. Gutsy job by these guys. Finally they caught a break. Thursday's game with jmu is a must.

McGrath learned another lesson as a coach. You cannot sit Cacok an entire first half because he has two fouls, and allow the lead to balloon into double digits. Better to take the risk and keep the game close. 17 points was too much to overcome.

The refs, as terrible as they were, did us some favors tonight by calling it tight. You knew that if they did that, Towson would stumble into a ton of bad fouls, and they sure did.

My biggest takeaway tonight was we won a game where Talley didn't play great overall, and Cacok fouled out. The last, what, 2 minutes of regulation, plus overtime, were played without Cacok? And much of the game, both he and Talley were sitting for long stretches due to foul trouble. That was something many here didn't think we could accomplish, but we did tonight.

Big props are due to Marcus Bryan in that regard. He had some huge rebounds, hit a big open jumper, and some clutch free throws despite being a 48 % shooter entering the night. He also avoided picking up his 5th foul and forcing us to go very small or bring in Kalina. Without Bryan, we don't win this game. How often have we been able to say that so far in his career? Big minutes out of him, and of course Jacque.

All true. Bryan has improved his game loads this year. You can see the confidence in his game on offense and rebounding. He used to go up weak in the paint and get blocked or put up a shot that had no chance. He's playing strong now, and gets the shot and draws fouls. He deserves all the credit in the world, but so do the coaches. It's obvious Joe Wolf has been a huge asset in teaching him how to play as a big man.

Joe Wolf has done a great job with both of our big in a short time. Last year Cacok did little other than catch and dunk/lay it in, never allowed to dribble. Now he puts the ball on the floor and attacks people from as far out as the free throw line. I can't wait to see the improvements Elmore has had next year.

Huge win for our boys. From the post games, it sounds like coach and players still believe. Hopefully take care of business against JMU on Thursday and we'll have a shot to get back to .500 on Saturday. Season is far from over.

I also have to say that the support this team receives is incredible. I'm not sure it was 4400 like they claimed, but I think we were close to 4000 for a 5-14 team entering last night.

I second this. The support this struggling team has been given in attendance had been great. The student section has grown and gotten stronger despite the struggles.

Very proud of the community and student body for not giving up on this team. Looks like we may be rewarded as I truly believe this team can beat anyone in the CAA and they are only getting better

RE: Towson round 2
I missed this one, but this is like the 3rd or 4th game in a row where despite some struggles during the game, we are competing for the win or win the game. This team has greatly improved since entering conference play and keeps giving us reason to believe anything can happen in Charleston. The only team that will truly have a "home" advantage there is Charleston, and that could pay big dividends for the Seahawks come March as the confidence continues to build.

I love hearing that Bryan had a great game last night. Hearing someone say we should have Talley and Brown on the court together, I like that too. The speed and defensive tenacity with those two together sounds powerful, and could give the team a good lift. If Brown keeps this play up, you'd have to think that he would fill a scholarship spot next year maybe. That would be a heck of a reward and confidence booster for the young man that is already showing he can compete at this level.

Thanks for the text updates last night Solo!

it's 4! 2-2, easily could be 3-1 or even 4-0 over that stretch. Coach appears to be growing with them, very positive sign.

I don't think anything could be "easy" this year, in this conference but you're right. A few different things going our way and 3-1 or 4-0 is possible. That's what I'm happy with. Even if we were 1-3 or 0-4 in that stretch, if this team is doing the right things to put themselves in a position to be 3-1 or 4-0 and luck just doesn't work out... I'm okay with that. Bottom line is they're not giving up, players are improving, coaching is adjusting and improving, and we are seeing that there's no reason to hang our heads.

I'd love nothing more than to see McGrath go on to be the best coach in program history and lead this team for years to come.

The important thing here, is that coaching this depleted roster... he's showing that we aren't going back to the "Dark Decade" of Seahawk basketball. It may be a tough, or frustrating season at times but this is a program still heading in the right direction.

Great work Seahawk players, coaches, and fans! Wings up!

He clearly had some things to figure out, and it took him a bit to maybe not be so stubborn(i blame Roy), but he's adjusting for sure now. And it's showing, and the results are getting better because of it. That's all i wanted the first 15 games was something, anything to grab onto that was positive. We are getting that now.

The players are growing. McGrath is learning what he can do with that growth. He was not being as stubborn as it looked. There's not much difference in what he was emphasizing from the beginning. He has made some adjustments as he learns about the ability of our players. But much of what they are doing now is what he has been saying he wants them to do. While he did finally decide this team was going to have to utilize zone more than he wanted, I also think the players have bought into themselves and developed a swag in their play. It really showed last night when they refused to be intimidated by a much bigger Towson team.

So what you're saying is those of us who said "Let the season play out. Give it time, etc"

Well... we weren't all that wrong now were we?

I'm seriously perplexed by anyone who thinks a FIRST TIME head coach is going to have everything figured out right out of the gate.

33 is right, it's not stubbornness if a head coach has a plan and wants to stick to it through the first 10-15 games of his first season. It's not. That logic is completely flawed. Do you give up in your plans at the first sign of adversity? Or do you keep pressing, and after a certain period of time perhaps realize your plan needs a tweak or two to improve the success rate?

Sometimes you have to scale the view out a little bit and see the big picture. Remember watching Sesame Street as a kid and they show you a really blurry image on the screen? Think of that as the first couple games. Then they zoom out a little bit and you can start to see an image and start making more educated guesses on what it is? Think of that as the first 10 games. Then they zoom out a little more and your educated guesses are either right or wrong and you make more educated guesses based on the data your eyes are receiving? Think of that games 10-15. McGrath is getting more exposure to this team in a game environment just like they are getting more exposure to him. Both sides are beginning to see a more clear picture of the end result.

Sometimes you can't look at that blurry picture, watch someone make a guess as to what it is and when they're wrong call them a fool and incapable of getting it right. Sometimes, you have to give first timers a little time. Coach K didn't win national championships at the Army Academy. Neither did Bobby Knight. Bill Belichick was fired by the Browns and not successful there either, but that didn't mean he was incapable of becoming a really good coach (as much as that statement makes me sick to my stomach).

Remember... give people time. Go look at your response to what I wrote about Coach Barefoot on the Women's Basketball thread. Then look at the difference in how you've treated Coach McGrath on here. Maybe take the UNC-hate blinders off a little and learn to give people a chance from the start instead of going all "chicken little" on everything.

End rant.
