Delaware
So from what I've been reading, promising freshman Kevin Anderson suffered a season ending knee injury on Christmas night. That leaves Delaware with just 7 scholarship players for their CAA season.

I don't think these words have been spoken or written in about 5 years, but "Drexel is the deeper team" for this game. Hopefully this will work to their advantage.

Delaware and Drexel are on the exact same path right now. Both teams hit rock bottom a few years ago, and Spiker and Ingelsby are both racing to be the first to get their team to respectability and then ultimately back to the top of the CAA.

It's been 13 months since Drexel has won a true road game outside of Philadelphia, and 23 months since Drexel has won a CAA game on the road.

Therefore, until they show me that they can win on the road, I can't pick Drexel to win. I anticipate that Drexel (like last year) will put themselves in position to win, and might once again find away to screw it up. Please prove me wrong.

Delaware 75
Drexel 74

RE: Delaware
Since we are coming off a bye and a no show we should have plenty of energy tonight. I think Delaware is playing above themselves right now and will be ready. I think they will be in a tight game at half with the lead before their legs finally give on them as we continue to force pace. Drexel puts together one of their best 2nd halves and wins going away.

Drexel- 84
Delaware- 62

Since the game isn't until tomorrow, hopefully we have plenty of energy tomorrow too. Even if you got the day wrong, I think the energy part is right. Against William and Mary, Points off turnover was WM 21, Drexel 10, second chance points were WM 21, Drexel 6. Do the math and that means we outscored them 47 - 43 in the normal run of play when turnovers or offensive rebounds were not involved. If we can keep our heads and box out, things can get much better.

Although Delaware is somewhat shorthanded, they managed to pull away from UNCW after two of their guys fouled out and they were putting a walk-on in the game. If the team of the 1st ten minutes of Sunday's game shows up, could blow them out, but the one from the last 3/4ths of the game might well get blown out.

For the first time all season, a Drexel game will be on REAL TV. Delaware is paying to have their game feed broadcast on NBC Sports Philadelphia (This is one rare case that Delaware doesn't SUCK). Since Delaware doesn't like to cooperate with CAA.TV, tonight is a great night to have the game on TV.

RE: Delaware
So do we break out the gold jerseys for this game or are they just for Big 5 teams? To me Delaware at this point is the bigger, more important rival than the city schools that see us as the annoying little brother.

I do not see us stealing recruits from Villanova and Temple, but we compete against Delaware for the same class of player. In retrospect, although I'm not a big Ryan Daly fan, he would be nice in Kari's spot right now. We need to get to the point where local kids don't choose them over us. I'm not sure that it is likely to happen, but we need to get to the point where everyone in the areas realizes that Delaware sucks, not just Drexel fans.

If Drexel had chosen Ingelsby instead of Spiker to coach the team, then it's very likely that Ryan Daly would be a Dragon.

I have no idea what the cost is. I am disappointed that the CAA didn't continue their relationship with NBC Regional Sports. I thought it was the perfect arrangement for the CAA to offer live programming to the networks at times when there were no NBA/NHL games on.

This year the CAA left it up to the schools to negotiate their own TV deals for home games. Delaware decided to put some games on TV. Drexel has chosen to stick with their drexeldragons.tv broadcasts on CAA.TV.

Quality post from the Delaware message boards. I miss those days that he's referring to. Now it seems like the students don't care anymore. I'll bet there won't be 2,000 fans at the game tonight, compared to the days when the BOB used to be packed for every game.

When I was a student at UD, Drexel would bring their whole student section down to the Bob when we played them. All I remember is them chanting "Not Real Football" the whole game. Biggest group of ******** I've ever seen. Ever since then I've hated Drexel with a passion. I'm not sure if UD vs. Drexel counts as a rivalry game- but it sure feels like one to me.

I'll leave it to the guys who have a higher IQ than I do to provide quality insights and a scouting report, all I want to say is I hope we beat the piss out of em.

Someone (or some people) would have to step up and start taking real control of improving the DAC Pack from the inside. Until that happens, students aren't going to spontaneously appear.

RE: Delaware
The thing is, it was built up then fell. It will naturally follow the success of the team. We are still a predominantly engineering school, which has its own unique group of people. Many are foreign. Many have better things to do with their time than care about sports. Most just dont care in general. Making people care when they dont will always be a struggle. Winning helps change that. Consistent winning makes sure it stays. We had a good run and had a lot of work put into growing the DAC Pack. Unfortunately the time to really keep the momentum going ran into a lull in the product and some bad teams. So now you have a new batch of students who have never seen a decent season from Drexel. That is hard to get excited about unless you cared to begin with.

If Spiker turns it around and start winning and winning consistently, people will show up and cheer. Until then it is a tough sell no matter what the people running the DAC Pack do. Sure you can go door to door and recruit new people, but without a winning product or at least an entertaining one, those people will never stick around. It is tough.

Sloppy offense so far. Poor 3 point shooting. Some of their good looks were missed, but too many bad choices. They need to do a better job of valuing each possession on offense.

I think we've discovered that Drexel is just a flat out terrible basketball team. Early in the year we blamed it on the injuries. Now that their key guys are back, we're learning that they're just not very good.

there was a good post on the delaware boards that said something like spiker has done a "very poor job" recruiting so far. we beat out pitt johnstown in a heated battle for our only signee this year. last year we went toe to toe with central cn state for doles.

i'm all about turning the underdog into a great player. just have to start seeing it happen.

Meanwhile they noted on the telecast tonight that Deleware signed 3 top 100 players. Ingelsby was the guy who I really wanted at Drexel and from what I hear he really wanted the Drexel job. It will be really upsetting if Delaware ends up beating out Drexel in the race to getting back to success.

RE: Delaware
Drexel holds Delaware without a FG for the final 5:26 but they still lose by 6.

Delaware had just 9 personal fouls up until the final seconds of the game when the started to foul on purpose. From what I gathered, Delaware seemed to play light on defense in order to keep their 7 players in the game. Drexel still couldn't take advantage as they shot 41% for the game.

The Willie Nelson (on the road again) streak continues. 11 straight CAA road losses.

Drexel is now 9-41 in their last 50 CAA games since their 6 games winning streak in February 2015.

Hard to say that this game was a new low, but it certainly felt that way watching that disgrace.
