According to the box scores, a total of 1606 watched the UAB games at FIU and FAU. 1091 at FAU and 515 at FIU. Why are these faraway schools in CUSA again?

Recruiting? At least their football teams were good this year, with their new high profile coaches.

potential matters. FIU has three times as many students as Troy, AL has residents. Most FIU students are from south florida. All FIU has to do is not suck for a while and they will grow a decent fan base. The same can be said for FAU on a somewhat smaller scale.

we better hope markets matter. being in the number one market for college football in the country is our best chance of getting out of cusa.

There was a time I wished cusa went to 16 and brought South and ga state on in to take all the markets left.

Florida, particularly from the I-4 belt south, is one of or is the highest growth state in the southeastern region. Its "smaller state universities" are the size of UA and AU now and growing. UCF and USF blew through C-USA and are now situated to join a P5 conference whenever openings become available. That presumes that the AAC won't become the new "P6" member soon (formerly held by Big East), or that if/when the Big 12 expands it does not take these two increasingly strong Florida programs. The recent coaching hires in Florida's universities indicate a desire to seriously compete nationally.
