Everett, Backman, Howard, Magee, & Nelson were all offensive options and all spent time in the NFL. Add to that list back-up QB Jeremiah Briscoe, who won the Walter Payton Offensive POY for the second straight year and will be picked up by an NFL team.

Vincent in 2014:
#45-YPG
#68-YPP
#42-Total rushing
#83-Total passing
#62 Total yards
#54 Total plays

These stats are with the #88-ranked defense and #94 in total TDs given up in 2014.

Don't know if it's going to be Vincent or someone else. But, I'm choosing to trust Coach Clark's opinion on the hire. The way I look at it, he knows more about what the program needs right now - by far - than anybody on this board. I would bet there are several things that are important to him when bringing in the new OC and it's not all about Xs and Os.

Every new player or new coach is like playing three card draw poker. All you can do is hope you guess right most of the time. Some big budget FBHCs can afford to be wrong, but even they try to cut down on the odds because fans have very short memories (EX Les Miles). UAB's Clark has so far shown excellent judgement in coaches and players so we can hope for an even better season in 2018. HOPE is the operative word, not EXPECT. Those other teams, their coaches and players are aiming to improve as well. Someone will be wrong.

Seems like the offense and defense flip flopped between 2014 and this season. We could have a legit team if the offense can catch up with the defense.

How much of the defense did we lose to graduation/attrition?

The Browns picked him up. Hope he makes the active roster next season.

He is actually a good QB coach, but not so much an OC.

After Vincent was fired following the 4th game at South Alabama, Jones then moved Richard Owens over to OC. Owens was about the only McGee holdover that Clark kept. They like Owens a lot. I wonder if he could possibly be in the mix too? There is more than one opening.

Offense was still horrible...

Remembers that Jones left South Alabama at the end of the season & can't recall who their new coach is.

He is really good, and he also got Troy's OC to run his offense.

They were 1-3 under Vincent, and 3-5 under Owens. Maybe it was more on Jones, than Vincent and Owens.

RE: Footballscoop.com says...
Hope we add somebody who’s gonna run a fun offense. Attractive to athletes. Bring in some speed. WRs aren’t meant to stand along the LOS and block the whole game, of course what we had couldn’t get open anyhow. That’s why we can’t land an all around WR. Somebody who’s gonna get an Olineman early on instead of adding a filler juco Olineman on signing day with no offers. Never got to see what Vincent could bring in with a full year to recruit a class at UAB. Wasn’t impressed with what they brought in at USA that wasn’t a UAB transfer.

A program can fire coaches at any time, promote coaches on an interim basis during the season, but cannot "fire" present players &/or bring in new players during a season.

FBHC Callaway cleaned house when he took over and wound up with only 60 scholarship players for his first team. He had to give schollys to 8 more walk ons to have enough to scrimmage. His program never recovered.

The reasons why he was hired was a reason why he never recovered.

Today's update on Football Scoop:
Quote:UAB: Sources tell FootballScoop former South Alabama offensive coordinator Bryant Vincent will join back up with Bill Clark as Clark’s offensive coordinator at UAB. The two previously coached together (with Clark as head coach and Vincent as OC & QBs) at both South Alabama and when Clark first got the UAB head coaching position. Vincent served as offensive coordinator at South Alabama under Joey Jones since the 2015 season.
