The Regions Bank Vulcan Bowl

The game was won today after the USF Bulls scored 38 Vulcan points.

Regions Bank presently advertises itself as "The official bank of the SEC". Would that status bother some of our UAB fans?

Why would it?

1. It'd be great to have a big money sponsor for the local bowl game.

2. It's not a C-USA game.

3. Now you're just being silly.

Problem with Vulcan Bowl is only Birminhamians would get the connection. The rest of the country would be making Mr. Spock jokes.

Who wouldn't want their team in the Star Trek Bowl?

LOL = Maybe the game trophy could be named the Leonard Nemoy Trophy - Vulcan with pointed ears and holding up a Star Trek salute instead of a thunder bolt. .

That's what gave me the idea.

And a title sponsor can still sponsor it. The Papa Johns Magic City Bowl can be a thing. It would give it a little more identity than the "Birmingham Bowl"

And "Vulcan Bowl" is probably worse than "Birmingham Bowl". As has already been stated, no one would get it and it doesn't roll off the tongue nearly as good as Magic City Bowl. The trophy can still be a statue of Vulcan

Of course I was (just being silly) as a reaction to knee-jerk hostility expressed by some posters toward any mention of the SEC for any reason. NOTE: The Regions Bank commercials feature a band dressed in green even though no SEC team uses green - the bank's adopted color.

Maybe the bowl will get a big sponsor again when the bowl is played at a new stadium or is scheduling to play there in the future.

More than anything, I'd buy that as a very good reason why there's no sponsor

And can we rename it to the Magic City Bowl instead of the Birmingham Bowl? "Birmingham Bowl" is like the government cheese of bowl games

MAGIC CITY BOWL sounds cool

The trophy for the Bowl Game this year was Vulcan. The Vulcan Bowl would be cool too.
Really neat trophy!

yeah, but can he wear some pants this time?

David Carrington @WDCarrington

The Jefferson County Commission during today's Finance Committee meeting unanimously approved moving a $30 million commitment for a new multi-purpose facility on property owned by the BJCC to Thursday's agenda.

That wording suggests that the county is thinking MPF which MAY NOT mean the open air single use BJCC stadium. Perhaps the final draft will be more explicit.
