*** Quick Lane Bowl (Game Thread) ...
UNI and Duke win the bowl lottery, a trip to fabulous Detroit.
The ACC, last year's bowl champs, kicks off its bowl season vs the MAC.

Truly awful 4th down call right now by NIU. Someone should be fired for that.

Seems like once Duke realized NIU actually came to play, the Blue Devils started dominating like they were capable of. Duke 36, NIU 14

More likely they realized we couldn't provide any kind of deep passing threat so all they had to do was stop the run and the short pass. They got burned a couple times but it was worth the risk.

Let's face it: NIU just wasn't any good this year

Rod Carey is 1-13 in his last 14 against winning teams. That one win is 7-6 Eastern Michigan.

No, they weren't. The defense was pretty good early on, before injuries settled in. The offense had some upside with Santacaterina in there at QB (played against Nebraska and SDSU after which he got benched for throwing a few picks) but Childers was low-risk, very-low reward at QB. He was a freshman, but still. Not good enough to beat a decent team. And not just this year. It doesn't appear that we've been very well prepared for the last 4 bowl games. Who knows, if Doeren had coached our Orange Bowl against FSU instead of Carey, we might have done better there too.

Yea that's why NIU fans in general are not happy with a coach who still has a decent overall record - only because he inherited a good team from the previous coaches.
