Southern takes care of business at home with more energetic fan base even though it's early in the year with new offense and defense. I'd like to see how that October 20 game falls on the schedule, considering GS consistently gets selected for the horrible Wednesday evening games. I would assume Southern would not have to travel to New Mexico State after a Saturday evening game unless the SBC (powers that be) truly wants us to fail vs a former conference member.

I'm predicting 3-1. Wow more wins than we had of all of last season.

It took our worst team ever for NMSU to finally beat us. I think we'll be ok.

But yea we seem to be getting the short end of the scheduling stick here recently.

I agree with 3-1 and hopefully a good showing at Clemson.

I spent a while thinking about maybe bolding Nebraska because I believe that is a very winnable game. But to keep my arguments consistent, don't see Nebraska without a BSU win 1st. Battle for top of MWC vs top of Sunbelt, home revenge game, and with the talent Troy fans they say they have coming back, this has got to be a must win if the SunBelt wants to say we are on par with more than just CUSA and MAC.

Boise St will be a Top15 team next year. I don't see us beating them with a new QB in game1. Nebraska will be improved with many starters returning, they will be favored.

RE: 2018 Must Win Non-conference
Here is the real Arkansas State non-conference story. We beat G5 opponents at home and lose to them on the road. We win every other bowl game. We only play guarantee games for $1.5 million and that means playing Auburn, Alabama, Oregon, etc. because lower tier P5s do not want to play us and cannot pay top dollar. Mizzou came to town in a rare appearance and if not for Knighten going down we likely win instead of losing by a TD.

2018 finally sets up well with UNLV in Jonesboro and Tulsa on the road. We should beat UNLV given our recent history and beating Tulsa on the road would break the cycle hopefully. Iowa State is playing a home and home in the near future so we should have a shot at a win vs a P5 (in name at least) when they come to JB.

The Near future as in 2025?

We've got SMU, Tulsa, and Memphis (2x) at home before we play a single game against the Cyclones.

Kentucky is paying ULM 1.6 million.

That is pretty near to me unless you don't plan on being around.

That is a lot for them I would think. I would LOVE to get UK, Vandy, Kansas, WF, Indiana and the like on the schedule.

If we can find that ‘early season Hansen’, and somehow find a way to keep him at the top of his game, we will only lose one game.
If the same Hansen that finished the year shows up, SEMO isn’t a sure win.

Heavy, heavy, emphasis on the "SHOULD".

You guys don't exactly have the best track record OOC.

Usually that slip up is against a weaker SBC team, which doesn't knock us out of the title race.

Not counting this year where we screwed the pooch against Troy.

Our track record OOC is that we usually win our home games, lose our road games, and have a 50/50 shot at the bowl. The only exception has been Toledo thanks to Kareem Hunt. UCA proved we're capable of laying an egg at home every now and then, but our FCS opponent is terrible next season.

If I was playing odds on, we go 2-2 OOC. Win the home games, lose the road games, with a pretty miserable loss to Tulsa thrown in that will probably have the entire league wondering by the end of the season how in the hell we lost to them. We'll simply respond with "Because Anderson" After which, we'll go 7-1 in league play beating App by at least 3 Touchdowns before losing to UL in another "Because Anderson" Game

That leaves us with the conference title game and a bowl game. With the bowl result entirely dependent on how much of an effort the coaching staff puts into the game

Somewhere between 9-5 and 11-3 overall.

I don’t think we will beat Ole Piss but if there was ever a shot for us to win it’s next year with players leaving, scholarship reductions Etc.....

I agree with your analysis. If there was a time ULM could pull the upset on Ole Piss it would be in 2018. I'm really not convinced that TA&M would be that tough a game (doesn't mean we'd win). There'll be even more confidence in our offense and hopefully we've fixed a lot of the defense problems, especially all the injuries we had in the secondary and at linebacker. When you have as many as five freshmen playing at the same time on defense like we did, well, it's gotta be better the next year! BUT...it will still be a season where we need to score a lot of points to win most of our games.

Prediction: ULM will be in a bowl game. I have no opinions yet on an appearance in the SBC championship game but anything could happen.

I must apologize but the TAMU game is the only one I'll be rooting against y'all in OOC play. Dad played there and blood is thicker than water yannow? PLUS - there's a new head honcho in town by the name of Jimbo Fisher. Aside from that particular game, GO 'Hawks, GO!!! 04-cheers
